thanks guys for the insight. I will be using the Manta bass in combination with an MXR BOD in front of it for synth like octave sounds with fuzz or slight drive from the Manta itself. Those two are in an effect loop and first thing in my signal path.
For my overdrive /distortion I am relying on a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes and a Darkglass B3K. I play in an instrumental three piece band ,our style is a mix of Post-Metal and Rock fusion.

Is anyone using a Keith McMillen softstep in combination with source audio pedals and hub ? Does it work well or does it need adapters ? (I think it's midi is USB only, not DIN, without adding a KM gizmo).

Loving the Nemesis so far, especially Helix mode. I've been using it in combination with my Dimension on E-Dome and Pitchfork on 2 octave up.
Also discovered that Degrade mode can essentially be used as a bitcrusher to get some of those 8-bit type sounds.

I just today ordered a Softstep 2, so I'll know sometime next week. I'm not sure you need the USB-to-5 pin MIDI adapter, I suspect you do though. I did include the KMI adapter since I plan to use the Softstep with an IO Dock, so I can try it both ways.

Try the Neuro app, it has a separate sample rate reducer you can apply to any of the voices.

I love the degrade function! It's great on the diffuse voicing.

I'd love a "compounding degrade" like the compounding shifter, where each repeat gets a little more degraded

I used the softstep and couldn't figure out a good way to convert the USB midi to 5pin. But it worked if I used my laptop to 'forward' the signals. I suppose there's better USB to 5pin options now.

As for the io dock, if you mean the alesis, I had the original version and the USB was out only (I.e. To use the dock as a slave device). I had to do some mods to use it as a master device and even then the connection wasn't very stable and there was also a lot of noise. In the end I just gave up.

I tried using the Softstep with the hub and had mixed results. I used it through my laptop to convert from USB to DIN. If you use it to send a simple program change command to the hub, it works fine. If you try to do more complex things like send CC commands along with the PC command, there are problems. The hub wouldn't respond to a second command unless it's delayed about 400ms after the first one. The Softstep will do that in 'hosted' mode, but that means it has to be connected to your computer. I spent a few hours testing the setup before deciding that it wouldn't do what I wanted it to do, which was load a scene and then bypass the pedals.

The Softstep is USB powered also. So you would need a separate power supply plus the DIN adapter that KMS sells to run it without a computer.

Yes, the IO Dock only uses 5-pin MIDI, so you need an adapter, I've bought the KMI one. There's also an adapter from Kenton.

About the IO Dock problems, I have both the first and second versions, I had tons of problems and noise with the first one but the newer version is OK so far. There are better alternatives today though.

I'm new to this thread, but since I already have the prog-EQ, the bass-OFD, and I have both the hub and the Orbital coming in the mail, I think I can now formally become a society member (please

Anyway... QQ for you guys: The hub manual briefly mentions that it can act as a USB-to-MIDI interface, sending MIDI from a computer to connected pedals. What I want to know is this:

Does the hub support full MIDI-over-USB functionality (IN/OUT through the MIDI ports), or is this only workable with the Soundblox pedals connected through the proprietary interface...?

I believe a power supply is included with the KMI adapter.

Presumably, though, you could do things differently and save the scene with the pedals already in bypass, ready to be switched on. (Sorry , excuse me if this sounds dumb, I have not yet taken the plunge with any SA gear so I'm just assuming it would work this way ?)

The One Series pedals, including Nemesis, can be saved to scene with a sound loaded, but bypassed. The older pedals cannot. For Soundblox 2 pedals, they are saved with a sound engaged. You have to either load the scene exactly when you want the sound or load it, then manually bypass pedals. I do the latter and set a scene for the sounds I want in a song and bypass or engage as needed during the song.
