Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

Hi there,
I just got myself a Soundblox Hub and connected it with the Bass Manta and the Aftershock to my computer. Running the hub manager, it recognizes the Aftershock but it thinks the Manta is the Stingray... when I clicked on updating the firmware to the Manta hex file, it obviously asks whether or not I want to continue with this one as it is not the pedal that it thinks it is. I clicked yes, but then I get a message, that it can't do the update... help please?
This also makes me wonder: has my Manta behaved actually like a Stingray then? I noticed that there are different filters, like the High Pass for the Stingray....

Update: I just tried the manta again, this time with the Stingray manual in front of me. It seems like it IS in fact behaving like the Stingray. For the mod source at about 1 o'clock, it is definitely not a square wave anymore but seemingly the random sample and hold... and for the filter preset at #10 it is definitely a High Pass Filter and not Multipeak... I feel a little bit silly for not having noticed before, but then again, with this many options (positive!), it is not really realistic to constantly cross-check... Anyways, I sent a message to the SA support... I wonder if there is a factory reset I can do?

Hi Annette,
Our sincere apologies regarding the issue. That's an odd one. Here is how to fix it:

Connect the Manta to HUB port 1.
Disconnect all additional pedals from the HUB.
Put the Manta into Boot Mode by pressing and holding both small black pushbuttons while connecting the power supply. Continue holding the buttons until the three left LEDs are red, and the three right LEDs are green.
Open the HUB Manager.
From the top menu of the HUB Manager, select Pedal // Firmware Recovery.
Select OK, then choose the Manta firmware file in the following menu.
Wait for the update to finish.

I'll follow up with you via the message you sent earlier.

We were rearranging the whole studio when someone hands me an old Aguilar Agro that had been lying around for a couple of years. I'd since replaced it with a Darkglass B3K. Since I had two dirt pedals, I thought I'd hook them up for a shootout. Darn it if the Agro didn't sound better to me. So I decided to go all out and have a real shootout. I ordered me a Pork Loin and a Source Audio Aftershock.

My guitarist/producer raised his eyebrows at me. Digital dirt? No good, he said. But once I got my used Aftershock in and did a factory reset, the "heavy" sound was really speaking to me. It sounds better than the Agro, better than the B3K.

What kind of evil witchcraft are you guys using over there to make this happen? I have only just begun experimenting with the Neuro application on my laptop, but it seems like there are going to be many sounds that I like. I might be keeping it and flipping all the others. It'll take its place alongside my Manta and Programmable EQ. Way to go Source Audio!

I think there are 2 things going on here.
1) Digital opens so many doors. If you look at what we offer in the Neuro Mobile and the Neuro Desktop, it is kind of insane that you can add in EQ, stack 2 different distortions, and browse from a huge collection of sounds created by others. It is so powerful. Analog solutions ….even ones that have digital control.....cant even come close.
2) The other thing is how many years we have been perfecting digital dirt. This is something like Generation 5, and that was built on top of work that Bob Chidlaw did at Kurzweil over 20 years.
So, while it seems like magic :) there is some logic behind it. Love your comments!

Crazy that it's coming so soon! My hope is also for a filter/Manta type pedal in the One series format.

With the level control, it could be a compressor - maybe a One series programmable EQ with compression added, making for a very customizable tone shaper with the Neuro editor controlling the different bands blended in and EQ'd with the compressed signal?

Given the level knob and what looks to be a smaller One Series layout, I would assume it's an updated Multiwave Distortion. Or... they are really releasing a compressor and did their best to throw us off their trail. Whatever it is, I'm looking forward to it.

However, on my list of things to throw money at Source Audio for:
1. Synth pedal that rolls in Manta and octaver functionality
2. As an alternative to #1, an update to the Manta that has octaver capability as well as the already included dirt
3. Programmable compressor with dual compression engines for dual-slope compression as well as adaptive release times (as an option)
4. A amp/cab simulator

I opened a new thread , but maybe I should have asked here ...

I searched all the forums , did my search on google and couldn’t resolve my issue ...

Was rewiring my board due to a new commer (everyone say hello to Enzo)
And now for some reason the Hub won’t show on the software the 2 pedals I have plugged into it (lunar and aftershock) , and won’t send any commands to any of them !!

Pressing the scan button the light on the pedal light up ..
when I click my switcher (pedalpalette) the led on the Hub lights as welll - receiving the midi CC , but won’t send it to the pedals

What am I doing wrong ???

Update the firmware on the Hub? This is needed for the Lunar and Aftershock, in the event you have not used them with the Hub before.
