Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

Ok, gonna derail the c4 chatter with yet another question on the reflex controller...

Is there a special way to get the pedal to send MIDI thru? I have an ES-8 sending MIDI to a future impact through the reflex to change patches and allow for expression use to send MIDI for cc sweeps.

When I send MIDI out ES-8 > Future Impact = works
When I send MIDI out reflex > Future Impact = works

But when I try ES-8 > Reflex > Future Impact, it seems that the ES-8 messages dont pass thru to the Future Impact.

I have not tried sending Reflex > ES-8 > Future Impact...mostly because I was hoping to be able to program some presets for the reflex to send from the ES-8.

Is there an option or configuration that I am missing to make this work? Any and all help or guidance is more than appreciated...been struggling w this for a while now.

@rsmith601 ? @Adamixoye ?

Edit: i have everything on the same channel. Maybe I need to set up another digital out?

I never wanted to do Reflex. So expensive to develop. So few customers. Each customer needs too much support. Thank goodness I killed the product!
Suggest you change the pedal order on MIDI. Try ES to FI to Reflex. Sometimes the ES sends very bursty datamessages.o

Noticing that the first two channels on my C4 don’t want to store my presets correctly.

When importing a saved preset from my computer, it seems to either tweak the settings to something really different, or revert to the default presets.

Only noticing this with desktop at the moment, not mobile

Have you updated your Neuro Editor to the current version 0.6.53 and C4 to fw 1.12 ?
If not that is likely causing your problems. You will need to download and install the new version of [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

Try turning on the midi merge function in the hardware menu. I had the same problem and that seemed to be the answer. It started when I tried to add the C4 to the chain, I thought the C4 was the problem. Turns out I must have turned that off somehow while messing with the C4/set-up. My chain is OC-10 > Reflex > Hub > FI > H9 > H9. It always worked great, then all of a sudden, the Reflex wouldn't pass through midi messages. The rest of the chain worked fine if I took the Reflex out. Turned on Midi Merge and it works again. For clarity, each unit is on a separate midi channel (Reflex - ch.1 through the 2nd H9 - ch.5). OC-10 sends messages on all 16 channels. Hope this helps.

It's a pity it was killed off...it's a unique and amazing product. But I really understand how complex it must be to develop and support. I think you guys at Source Audio are amazing and your products really do go toe to toe and in many cases eclipse what the big boys like Boss, Eventide and Strymon offer. For such a small company...I take my hat off to you sirs!

I really hope we can get to a point where we make enough from a core of high runners such that we can create Reflex 2.0 and the like. At this point we know so much about expression control, feature sets and software that it would be really cool. Imagine being able to custom create LFO wave shapes and sequences for Reflex and then share them via Neuro!!

As suggested, there is a MIDI Merge option using the hardware configuration software. I do find it has some limitations when sending out MIDI LFOs and trying to merge that with MIDI clock. But for most applications it's fine.

Mine always revert back to "user preset 1" or something like that. But again, I've been plugging and unplugging, burning and testing mult presets every day since I got it. so I figured it was just having trouble keeping up with my use or I am making too many changes every day and I'm doing something to where the devices aren't communicating well.

Agree that this sounds like a firmware issue. Make sure you are on 1.12

Custom User LFOs would be cool.

All firmware is up to date.

I will say I’ve only noticed this happening since I was doing heavy settings adjustments on the day that 1.11 was deemed buggy. I didn’t catch the message to update to 1.12 until later that day.

@rsmith601 any suggestions on a resolution for this?

@rsmith601 thanks for the reply!

The reflex is SO powerful and awesome, but I get the economy of scale part. So then, no...MIDI thru is not supported as I want?

Like I mentioned, my hope was to have the ES-8 send preset changes to the reflex and the FI through the reflex such that it also allows the reflex to do CC sweeps on the FI...which works when reflex is plugged direct to the FI. Ideally I want a MIDI merge to happen where the Boss ES-8's MIDI is sent to the MIDI In of the Reflex and also is routed onward through the MIDI out on the reflex, but any sweeps on the FI will also be sent out the MIDI out as well. Is that not possible?

As I write this I'm wondering if the ES-8 will translate EXP to MIDI CCs as that could be an option that would work in allowing me to use the Reflex to control MIDI sweeps

Oh solid, didn't see this reply when I wrote my last post. I'll give this a shot and report back.

Thank you kindly for the suggestion! @dieselbass42 @Adamixoye

So if any of you are interested in knowing, I think I finally figured out what I was missing when trying to get my hub/C4/midi/AS setup set up. It’s all in the Desktop Editor under “MIDI Map Editing Options”. That was the key to what I was missing!! So thanks again @rsmith601 this helped me a TON. I’ll be posting my newly revamped board this weekend at some point. Knowing me, it’ll be later tonight haha

Back to C4, just received the pedal by Thomann herein France. The 6 presets give some taste of the product, really powerful dare i say. My problem is about first 2 knobs. Default parameter seems being sensivity on the first one. When i switch to alt mode, it becomes input (should be input gain as default parameter), mix doesn't switch to vol function. What am i missing here ? Is it a defective unit or is there a simple thing to do to get things back to normal ?

It's possible to do a factory reset from the Neuro app. I'd do that, update it to the latest firmware and see where you're after that.
