Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

Hi @Gibs210 - I saw yesterday on the Source Audio Neuro Collective Facebook page that someone else had a similar problem with the Nemesis' reverse delay as I do. I never got around to asking about this but was reminded when I saw the post. Since no one has come forward with a possible solution, I thought I'd ask you:
Here is his post:
"Hi guys! Anyone else have problems with the reverse mode on the Nemesis. No matter how i set it, i always get a repeat right after I play, and then start hearing the normal reversed repeats, in tempo with what i tapped. Is this a normal thing on the unit, or am I missing something? Cheers"

I have the same behaviour. At first I thought it was the second tap but turning that one down didn't help, I tried all kinds of knob positions with the Reverse delay, it didn't change it either. I tried instrument directly into Nemesis and then into amp and also Nemesis as one of the last in my pedalboard. Same behaviour.

One person responded that he doesn't have this issue, so I'm taking from that that this first immediate repeat is not "normal".

Any thoughts?

This is the nature of the effect. It is a spinning loop and it depends on timing. If you increase the intensity, it will be more consistent.

What exactly wasn’t working right with the nemesis in the hub?
I can't remember at this point. It was a couple years ago. I think it wasn't bypassing 100% of the time when I loaded a new scene that had it bypassed. It wasn't a big deal. I just programmed the Soleman to send the MIDI CC for bypass. I only mentioned it because it was relevant to N4860's question.

There might have been some issues concerning bypass in earlier firmware revisions, I can’t recollect for certain. Personally, my nemesis has been in the hub since day one, and I have never had this issue with remote bypass via midi cc. Or preset recall on the hub. So I’m not sure what was happening with yours.

Well, Ventris is now acquired. I briefly thought about the Collider again and debated it heavily as the digital delay has a HPF and the tape delay has naturally thin repeats. Ultimately, I went with the Ventris because my favorite tape engines are Noise Tape and the Binson Drum Echo (Single Head). Plus, you can’t do an accurate Space Echo approximation without the Noise Tape engine.

So I guess that puts me at Aftershock, C4, Gemini, Nemesis, Neuro Hub ,and now Ventris.

Finally having more time to dive into the Spectrum, and man I'm having a blast. It's my first envelope filter, so despite having a synth background there's definitely been a learning curve, especially with getting my input levels just right. But it sounds freaking amazing and I'm constantly coming up with new ways to use it in a band context.

A couple of questions for the informed:
-Is there any way to crank the input gain more than just what the knob will allow? My GL Jazz apparently has lower output than I thought and sometimes even dimed the pedal isn't quite getting enough input gain to be sensitive enough for my taste.
-Are the factory presets for the Spectrum saved anywhere in the cloud? I looked under the "Factory" tab for Spectrum presets and the cupboard seems to be bare. This seems to mean that unless you manually save the original factory presets to your cloud library, the only way to get them back is to factory reset the pedal. Is that correct?

The knob offers all the input gain on hand. No factory presets are up for spectrum because C4 took off in terms of sounds, not sure what the plan was for factory presets for spectrum. @rsmith601 ?

Thanks for the response. I think I can probably make the input gain work as it is.

But yeah, of course I'm happy for you guys and owners that C4 is taking off but I'm definitely feeling a little left out on the Spectrum side of things in terms of Factory and Community presets :/

Sorry about that. We got busy with the Collider for a few weeks. Yes, we will get the top level sounds listed in the factory list.

I am still loving my C4 and am leaning towards picking up a Disaster Area DMC-6 to have more immediate access to presets.

I currently use a dmc.micro, but switching between sounds live is a little cumbersome as I have to think about what number preset I want in the moment. I play a lot of improvised music and want to be able to access different sounds on the fly.

The C4 has already replaced my Future Impact and phaser. With this setup I could also replace 3 other pedals.

I'd set it up so that bank 1 is synths, bank 2 is filters, bank 3 is modulations, etc.

Is a DMC-6 overkill or has anyone done something similar?

Doesn't seem that extreme to me...but then I'm using an ES-5+DMC3-XL. ;) Having banks of programmed patches at hand for clicking is really good...but also having the ability to ratchet through patches on the fly is also important.

I have both the FI and the C4 on my board. Right now I'm using the C4 for mostly envelope filter use with one sound that's 'envelope filter' up top and I've added sine wave deep lows below.

They're pretty different pedals and while there are obviously some overlaps, I so far haven't found a patch that reproduces things like @Proton Lenny's Blade Runner Synth sounds.

Thanks for your input. I'm about 90% sure this is the route I'll go. Disaster Area confirmed with me that the DMC-6 will do what I want.

I agree that the C4 and FI are different. But for the synth sounds I want, the C4 wins. Though I am tempted to try the FI again now that v3 is out.

If you have it, no drawbacks in updating. When I got my FI the editor was a bit overwhelming. The new one is similar but I feel like maybe at least a little more straightforward looking...or maybe I'm a getting a little more used to the Synth world. I haven't updated yet, but my next available night of fussing with pedals and updating, I probably will get it done. Just a matter of getting the few sounds I have programmed in my MIDI controllers to be back in the same spots.

Just received the Ventris today and I absolutely love it. After messing around with it, my first order of business was to recreate a Roland Space Echo using the 'Noise Tape' engine on the Nemesis and the 'True Spring' engine on the Ventris. One thing I'm starting to notice is that it doesn't seem like these pedals were made to be able to work in parallel with one another out of the box. It's looking like there's no way to run them in parallel and be able to sum them to mono without an external mixer. Is that correct @Gibs210?

Not positive this will work, but this is what I’ve come up with, note that this is not something easily done, and your scenario is beyond anything that these pedals were intended for.

first put nemesis in front, and set the I/O routing for mono in/mono out + input 1 to output 2, connect both out 1 and 2 to in 1 and 2 on ventris. Then on ventris set I/O to dual mono. Select the true spring on the B engine so that it outputs on the right side (opposite of the nemesis on the left side). Set engine A to 100% dry. Then connect your amp to out 1, this should result in parallel output of the signal.

I had to sit and think about that one for awhile, I haven’t tested it, but in theory, it should work.

Thanks, that worked. Only downside is that there’s no control over the delay volume without inadvertently raising the level of the dry out feeding the reverb (I feel like a dry through should remain at unity though).

Probably a dumb question...
I'm tweaking a filter.
I have Voice 1 set to go to Distortion and Filter, drop down selecting Envelope 1. That's happening.
I have Voice 2 set to go to Distortion and Filter, drop down selecting Envelope 2. But the interface shows that both voices are going to Filter 1.
In writing this out I realize that Filter 1 and Envelope 1 are different, so I realize that nothing is broken :D But...
How do I get Voice 2 to go to Filter 2?
