Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

Hello! I’ve been working with the C4 synth and for me, although very well laid out and intelligible, using the Neuro Desktop is a new thing. but I’m learning.

I come from a modular approach so last night while I was familiarizing myself with the mobile app I was experimenting with Oscillators and I got a terrific sound running a very robotic OC2 sound thru a 3 Leaf DOOM 2 fuzz into an Iron Ether Xenograph Deluxe. I’m working my way to gain understanding of the compartments within the Editor one at a time.

I know about the Tremolo perk in the Desktop Editor when working with the C4 and read about “Source Audio’s free library of bonus effect algorithms” but I do not know to access it. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I was using the mobile app when looking and that may have been a factor.

This may be a stretch but I think a Source Audio SA163 Reflex, while no longer in production (reason?) would serve a person with my needs; a mix of analog and Source Audio. I’d certainly like to purchase one, even at a premium because it would an excellent toe in that water. Given the power of the C4, and coming from my background, 6 recallable settings, add assignable expression control is huge to me. But with so much automation and other salient Series one pedals that cover whole swaths of effects in a tiny space available, that needs further consideration. I just don’t think I need to go down the midi path too far at the moment and in the absence of something like the Reflex I’m worried I’ll be looking at multiple devices/cables.

I changed out all my analog for SA equivalents. I use their Soleman midi controller and neuro hub. At this point I realize I could probably have gotten their with the Soleman, hub, C4 and maybe something from the helix line. Honestly, Source Audio is just an easy company to support. So far Mercury flanger, Aftershock distortion and soon to be Prog EQ 2 as an upgrade from my existing eq 1. My Poly Tune mini will go if the tuner in the eq 2 is good enough. no reason to doubt that it will be. The SA stuff is so well supported. If they made a power supply like my dc-10, a compressor and a switcher to replace my bassbone... I'd be there.

I'm right there with you. Had a bunch of great analog pedals but most have now been replaced. I run an empress compressor pretty much always on to start my chain and then into a C4, aftershock, lunar phaser, vertigo tremelo, nemesis delay, and then an always on Darkglass Vintage Ultra. Using a Soleman and Neuro hub as well.

Thinking about adding the eq2 when it starts to become more available here in Canada. My only wish would be to incorporate a few features into the Soleman. How cool would it be if the Soleman could do a freeze function like a Superego, or maybe a looper too.

My pedal effects journey started with a TS-9, Boss CS-2 and an American Metal pedal(hardly ever played).
My primary instrument is keys, with guitar and bass following(Mandolin remains straight to board)

Went through some DOD multi-effect unit with a built-in wah, and still have a Line-6 HD400.
When I finally came out as a bass lover and joined TB, first SA pedal was the Orbital modulator( may still be my favorite pedal)

Due to the excellence of the OM, a little "encouragement" ie, enabling from this thread:D and @rsmith601 's amazing support and presence here- have added the Collider, Aftershock and Spectrum soon to be joined by the EQ-2. Hub and modulation pedal also in near future.

Source Audio really is the Shi...stuff;)

I’ve already spoken to Jesse about how a Source Audio compressor would be most welcome.

If by “switcher” you mean something like a Boss ES5/ES8 or Morningstar ML5 that would be AMAZING!

Imagine how powerful such a device would be. Setting it up and integrating it as part of a scene would be easy via the Neuro desktop editor. I’d envisage it having the ability to have each of the loops run in either series or parallel and for the loop order to be fully selectable. Both of these settings should be on a per-preset basis.

I reckon there’s a market for it as there are plenty of SA users, me included, who still have a fair few analogue pedals. Something that has the small size and ease-of-use of the ML5 but more of the extended functionality of the ES5/8 like loop order determination and series/parallel capability would be brilliant, especially as part of the slick SA system. @rsmith601 please will you think about doing something like this?

I think the Boss ES-5 hits a great size / performance / price ratio. I would be all over a Source Audio looper / switcher / midi controller. One of the massive benefits of the ES-8 is the floating volume loop. Plus the stereo options, the extra loops, or the twin expression options. The ES-8 is the better unit but it's huge, heavy and very expensive.

Have you looked at the MusicomLab EFX series switchers? The Mark V and the LE have a smaller footprint than the ES-8/5 respectively; I know the ES switchers allow you to reprogram certain functions which I don't think the EFX can do, but they retain the ability to re-order your effects on the fly. There's an upcoming EFX-LE version 2 which looks to have more signal routing options as well.

This is something Jesse and I have discussed. Switchers are not simple. Stereo switchers get really complicated. Not sure how they do it. Cross point switches? Who knows. If we get big enough, then I can certainly see us doing this someday!

Big enough? You're huge in my eyes!

I ordered an Aftershock with a Memorial Day discount. I've been preferring my OFD over the dirt in the HXFX, so I figured I might as well upgrade and keep the OFD on a small board.

Yes, I can re-map any button on my ES-5. So I have one patch where I engage the patch and the ES-5 sets up a series of effects via midi. These include a reverb on one of my H9's, a chorus on my Mobius and an OC2 sound on my C4. this sound is also patch 1 on the C4. However, If I hit the mute button, it turns off the reverb, If I hit the patch button a 2nd time (in this case no 1) it trips the C4 into the red mode where the other three patches are. This means that this single patch has access to all the three main C4 presets, with out without reverb. If I hit the No 1 patch button again...I can access the three red patches on my C4, all within one button on the ES-5 and all in the same patch. I have another patch where I can have an octaver, with a muff from my aftershock and modulation from my Mobius and the latter two effects are switchable on/off. Both of these patches also have a foot controlled expression pedal that is processed by the ES-5 via midi. So yes....the Boss ES-5 is very flexible with it's patch and mute buttons! I just wish the ES-5 had another control in jack for either a 2nd expression pedal or two additional program / patch buttons.
When I get my EQ2...I'll probably be assigning the expression pedal directly into the EQ2 and letting that handle my volume swells and maybe the odd wah effect. At the moment I don't know if the EQ2 and Neuro hub can send midi CC out to other pedals. If it can, It might replace my Boss for all my Midi expression, leaving me the option for two extra buttons to control patches on my ES-5

Question for the hive mind. I have an occasional glitch with my C4/ neuro desktop. I'll click a patch , it loads, then everything/all controls, default to zero and I get silence. Click the patch again and it will usually load back up. I've had this happen while tweaking presets at home, and a few times live when I'm accessing patches via my ipad through the library. Also in live situations, I've had it get stuck on one preset , no matter how many times I touch another preset to change it. Any clues as to whats going on? I usually blame my own ignorance in these situations, but I'm wondering if its some type of bug? I just updated neuro and the C4 this morning, so I'm up to date on revisions. Thanks!

I’ve had a few bugs where the knobs all freeze up.

I have used various SA pedals as components in my regular pedal boards for years.

I have a large number of SA pedals of different series plus Hot Hands and 2 Hubs,
and a Boss ES-8 as I want to eventually incorporate non-SA pedals into the system.

I have finally started setting up a SA only board and plan to really deep dive into them.
I will incorporate the ES-8 (I don't have the Soleman) and will tie a laptop into the system as well.

Basses and synths, including Roland V-Bass, will be the instruments in the system.

Gonna be a fun summer!

That sounds awesome.

Similar to my plan.
ES8 with Neuro Hub, Kingmaker, C4 and when it is available EQ 2. Expression is a Reflex with one of the exp outs having a EHX 8 Step in the path.

Non SA devices Voluum, Wahoo, V256, Zoia, MD500. Gonna have to stack stuff to make it fit.
Midi connections via a iConnectivity MIOXM.

I think I'd be absolutely content with that, but there always the temptation of wanting to add a MIDI Keyboard controller or a Hot Hand.

Golden age of effects right now. I'm really excited about the EQ 2, just a couple more weeks.
