I feel bad for the SA employees that had to scramble on this one. Bummer their launch was blown.

Seems weird to have the DI on the front end of the pedal board. This seems more of a recording tool than a live one when regarding the DI. That said, I’ll be getting one. Looking forward to seeing how it works in my setup.

It is quite possible that this pedal uses Out 2 to In 2 as an external send/return loop. And possibly allows options for positioning the loop pre/post fx, and positioning the DI at different points as well.

No such capability is mentioned on the SA site. It doesn't have a S/R and only has 1 input

it might not be a front end in the way the guitar zio is, but this line from the product page makes me think SA thinks it belongs first in line on the pedal board:

“The inclusion of a standard 1/4 output allows for a parallel signal running directly to a pedalboard or the front of your bass amp.“

also, setting the drive as a screwdriver accessible trim knob instead of a standard knob is an interesting choice. When coupled with the lack of midi, I might need a separate zio for each bass?

maybe I’m not going to be a first week adopter as I had hoped. I’ll wait for the reviews and see how people are using it.

I’ve said this for years but I still want a nemesis size preamp with all the bells and whistles….and make it stereo…pleeeeeease.

It's what I've been saying as well or some type of looper...

I think this is an end of chain thing.

I have a Jhs colourbox v2 at the end of my pedalboard - it gives me a final gain sound, transformer overdrive if I wasn’t it, eq and DI out (and a HPF that doesn’t go low enough for bass).
For going into an amp it’s actually a really expensive way of slightly sweetening the tone- but for an end of stage preamp before going to the desk for ampless setup it’s amazing. I think the way people use the Noble preamp is quite similar.

Feature for feature this is doing the same thing as I’m using the colourbox for - if it sounds good it might be a alternative to that Noble you want but can’t afford/wait for/fit on your pedss as board

I was looking into possibly getting a zero5audio low rider as it was based on the pultec EQ technique, low and behold source audio have gone and knocked it out the park it seems with this. I don't need any more tone shaping really but.. I MUST GET THIS

I can tell you from first-hand experience how frustrating that is: after several months of really hard work on the FI v3.00 firmware and manual, we were preparing the public release when a few hours before the launch someone found and posted links to the update. It really took the wind out of our sails. Also caused us and other users a bit of a headache as we were still partway through uploading all the relevant material/documentation.

Yes. I was thinking that. But I have a noble. I may compare them, it’d be nice to like it as much or more than the noble.

What are you asking exactly? Are you asking whether the SA folks take user input into account? If so, yes, they absolutely do. @rsmith601 is VERY active here and on The Gear Page and very openly solicits and encourages user input. The Neuro 3.0 survey was a big chance for users to submit ideas and it has formed the backbone of lots of their work. Also there are many threads which he creates when new products are in development to get users to contribute ideas.

"Many users believe that there is some all-seeing and all-knowing person inside of effects companies that divines the future and tells customers what they want. While someone like Steve Jobs got away with this approach at times, it's not how I see Source Audio being effective. It is my belief that the best companies innovate in the ways in which they engage with customers to more deeply understand what is needed and how it is evolving."

If you see my message #count here and on The Gear Page, you will note that I am as much or more deeply engaged than any other effect company leader.

It really depends on the product.

This is an example of DEEP engagement with the community of users. Neuro 3.0 is another example.

Sometimes I need to let the engineers be the artists and have lots of sway over the product. The C4 was a bit more internal, because it grew from Bob Chidlaw's deep experience with modular synths.
The Ultrawave was also Bob's vision. No way customers think up that one!

Bass ZIO was a collaboration between Jesse and Christpher Venter, and largely driven by what they wanted to create. Christopher is a brilliant analog circuit designer with one of the best ears for we have encountered in this industry. And that says something after being in business for almost 20 years.

Think about putting a stereo pre amp or whatever with features in the hopper. As the only option to hear stereo is through a daw or stereo pa, it would be great to not only hear our effects in stereo (headphones ) but to output the results digitally than to go through another ad conversion.. if there was a stereo device like this that was reasonably priced I would have purchased it, but I don't think there are any in today's market. Or some type of stereo looper done SA style..I do think your next product is needed as well...

I'm not sure if Christopher Venter will see this but I'd like to congratulate him on his success! He used to be a regular poster on HCFX before that fell apart and he always seemed like a good dude. I still have one of his pedals from that era.

Plenty of multi effects units do this. HX Stomp and Quad Cortex are the 2 I use, and there are probably cheaper devices available.

I’ve recently been using my Beat Buddy to hear stereo effects without recourse to a computer.

I want to hear stereo on my board not a computer... There's only mono, unless SA is surrending this idea to someone one else. Are you familiar with such a device? If so I can quit barking up this tree....
