Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

In the midst of the hype for this pedal on TGP, I was hoping for a pitch-shifter that would replace either my Bass Whammy, H9 or both.
Was not expecting to end today 99% sure that I’m replacing my trusty BEF-Pro with the Artifakt. Glad to keep it in the SA family though, it’s only fitting.

That clip was one of two patches where I set the EQ to mimic the 40 Hz bass and 4kHz treble EQ of the Sadowsky preamp. This particular patch uses the Artifakt’s compressor too. I included this clip as another example of Artifakt being able to do more conventional stuff. It does indeed beef up my bass nicely. So just the main (parametric) EQ and compressor, nothing else.

(P bass with labella 760FS on clips 1-14. Clip 15 is a jazz bass with d’addario nickel 45-105 using just the bridge pickup).

Thought i made it obvious by saying what are you using "on this" pedal (Artifakt) Sounds really good. Currently looking at a few pedals on my board that i could get rid of to get this.

My apologies, I clearly overlooked the word “pedal” in your post due to tiredness (yesterday was very busy). I see now you meant “what settings did you use on the pedal”.

Indeed it is fun. In some ways I think this pedal is does more modular synth stuff than C4 does because there are so many places to route the envelope and LFOs and the LFOs go well into audio rate modulation. Some of the sound effect stuff possible on the pedal is amazing. And having built-in stereo delay/reverb/chorus to boot is lovely.

It's an amazing pedal for sure and I have my pre-order already in with Anderton's UK shop.
I would advise anyone here in the UK to do the same...once the first batch are gone...they are gone for a while.

I think for bassists, the ladder filter and dirt options are proably the most useful area. Although there's SO much more to this pedal. However...us "pseudo Synth heads"...it's going to be all the weird stuff that we are going to love. I can't wait to try out the different modulation options!!!
In fact...i just can't wait to plug this thing in!

Don’t underestimate the power of short delay or chorus to fatten up bass sounds. The compressor and EQ does some nice fattening too. I need to get an analogue octaver again and trying running it into this.

No. This is all you get for the compressor, but still makes an appreciable difference:

The EQ is more expansive with parametric EQ and then another 8-band EQ with full user control or preset options:

I for one find light overdrive to be very useful in modern CCM. I haven't used chorus, reverb or delay on bass in years, though reverb and delay in particular are essential to the guitar sounds.

I wouldn't write off the LA lady yet. It can load bass presets from the Aftershock, which is something worth experimenting with if you haven't yet. Try to find something that adds just a touch of grit while retaining low end. If you're playing with drums the cymbals will mask a lot of the "fizziness" from the drive but the other added harmonics will make you easier to hear in the mix.
