Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

If even the boss can't make it happen, what hope do we have? :)
I encourage the team to ignore hierarchy and act independently. Sometimes it hurts! Actually, we really needed to keep the control surface clean and limited. Every new addition got lots of discussion. Cab Sim and bypass made the final cut. We also strongly feel that we need to be careful about overriding clip assignments to presets. Things can sound bad quickly. With that said, the capability to stick on a clip while you browse presets could be handy. It's the implementation that is tricky. We spent lots of time discussing this point. I suspect it will be in there eventually.

Double tap to lock… 🔒 icon appears and clip doesn’t change with preset
…. Double tap to unlock …..

Was only lightly ribbing (hence the smiley).

I'd suggest long pressing the clip name to toggle lock on and off. Then a lock symbol could replace one of the next/previous arrows (with the other disappearing).

I have a few questions!

I haven't tried uploading anything since this version of Neuro came out; at what point does the 'default clip' get attached to a preset?

Will all 10k existing presets just pick up a rando default clip, or can the authors go back and select one? Would that require a re-upload?

Can you folks get the UI to display the number of presets in a given filtered view - like, unfiltered it would show 10,587 or whatever, and filtering on Gemini has 181 or whatever, filtering on Gemini + Compat shows 344 or whatever, and so on?

We have thought hard about all those things.
1) Yes, when you publish a preset you can associate it with your chosen sound clip. I have not tried this, but that was the intent.
2) While creating the preset packs that were unlocked during the launch, we spent hours listening to clips and presets. Certain pedals sound better with certain clips. So, we picked a default clip for each pedal.
3) The Neuro web portal is the tool I use to see how many presets there are by pedal. https://neuro.sourceaudio.net/
I just noticed it's not working at the moment! Need to investigate. Do you know another way to do it?

I also just noticed that the 10,000 are not unlocked yet. We have a meeting in an hour. I will report back.

Thanks for the very quick answers! A follow-up if I may: will we be able to set a default clip for community presets we've already uploaded, or will those just have whatever is the default for the pedal they pertain to? I don't necessarily mind having that done automagically, but some folks might be more particular than I am.

As far as counting the number of presets, I have to be honest, I often forget the Neuro Web Portal is out there; I *used* to guesstimate the number of community presets by multiplying the unfiltered number of pages of presets x 31 (because 31 is how many showed up on a page under the old Win11 Neuro UI) but that method doesn't work in the new UI. If it ends up working in the portal again, I will certainly refer to that number.

And why? I just have this notion that for every Luddite chased away by the 'requirement' to use the editor to get the most out of the pedal, there has to be some kind of anti-Luddite (?) to whom the idea of having 10k community presets already waiting for them would be a huge draw. That said, I also have the notion that THAT type of person values precision or truthiness a little more than your average Joe.

The clip assignment option is in the next release (early next week). Yes, I think you can to it with an existing preset (but done quote me).

I passed on the news to my "go to guy" Justin D @ Sweetwater about the "SoundCheck" and winning. He and I were in the middle of an acquisition. I decided to place the ZIO Bass Preamp at the end of a dry signal path.

UltraWave Bass (wet~dry)
C4 (wet)(+loop)
(Nemesis ADT) (Wet~+ loop)
ZIO Bass Preamp (dry)
Two Notes Opus (wet)

I think that being able to access Nuero Editor 3/SoundCheck through retail connect could be a game changer for Source Audio 🤖

What is the most efficient way to build a Source Audio pedal board with 3-4 SA pedals and some midi control with presets covering all pedals' settings? Neuro hub and a controller like the Soleman? Any smaller alternatives? Would love to see some setups if you have them.
This is a good question that depends on what you really want or need on a pedalboard...

When I found out that the UltraWave (Bass) has the graphic and parametric EQ's, HPF/LPF, and Multi-band Compressor the Boss BC-1X was sold off. Then the various distortion and the understanding of the Multi-band aspects along with the Tremolo effects section. I sold a Boss Slicer and have no other dirt pedals. Unless, you consider the dirt also available with the C4 Synthesizer?

The C4 replaced the Spectrum Intelligent Filter because (a) the C4 can preform all of the SIF functions (b) I'm no longer intimidated by the recently updated Nuero Editor 3 UI (c) I took a short class in modular synthesis online (Sarah Belle Reid) that was suggested by a TB member! This got me the terms, how things interact and what to do to achieve a type of sound theory. Also, the Nuero Editor 3 preset library availability and community of contributors.

My desire to have the Nemesis ADT is size, audio quality and flexibility over a super nice Boss RE-202 that has been sold off. The ADT has a "FREEZE" function and the Nemesis ADT can be operated independently as a #1 channel and #2 channel. I will run the C4 loop with #2 channel for modulation not available on the C4. #1 channel will be the entire wet signal for delay. The wet signal runs into the Broughton BBA to clean up/step up the signal into the Two Notes Opus.

Dry (or analog signal) can run from the #2 channel of the UltraWave Bass (direct) to the ZIO Bass Preamp.

(I do have a One Control Crimson Red Bass (DUB) to put after the UWB and can put the really nice Pigtronix Constellator BBD analog delay before the ZIO Bass for a sort slapback delay with one repeat for a Tony Levin trick.)

My answer is at least (2) ~ UltraWave Bass and the C4 Synthesizer.

My current acquisition (ZIO Bass Preamp) also includes the Nuero HUB, now that I will have (3) midi controlled SA pedals.

The SA168 midi adapter is also available for One Series pedals that have the TRRS 1/8" proprietary midi control (HUB) and no 5 DIN connection for midi. ($49)

The SOLEMAN was a must have in my mind. There seemed a best idea to also be using the SA Dual Expression Pedal. I plan to run one side to the Soleman. (The other to the Nemesis ADT that has a 1/4" TRS expression pedal input on the pedal.)

Definitely read some manuals and remember the routing options available. Example: the C4 has an external effects loop connection on #2 channel, but the UltraWave Bass doesn't. The UWB can cascade #1 into #2 channel or run the #1 & #2 channels in parallel.

My board is in transition, but still will feature at the very least a Boss RC-5 Stereo Looper...it may retain the Boss MO-2 Multi Overtones as a stereo splitter and treatment for the dry signal path, but may also go bye-bye, too.

I just wanted to add my experience with C4 that I've been using for last couple of months.
This is amazing synth pedal. I have not yet played synth pedal or combination of pedals for producing synth-ish sound, that came close to what C4 can do.
Certainly has learning curve, even when starting with online presets, but I managed to get my head around controls. The power that comes with all that controls is crazy.
Band loves it, I love it. C4 is permanently on my mini pedalboard.
