Source Audio Sourcerers Society (S.A.S.S.) Pt 2

I was considering adding a Hot Hand 3 so I headed off to the SA website.

Saw the special offer for the wireless HH3 + Filter Wah.
Put the package in the cart and took a look at what else was available and discovered that the Hub was shipping the next day. Placed that in the cart as well.
Went back and added a pair of SA160 daisy chain cables.

Complete order arrived on Tuesday, extremely well packed, and the fun began.

Midi Mouse is scheduled to arrive today so I put the Hub on the back burner to explore the HH3 and Filter Wah.
Tuesday evening and all of Wednesday were lost due to exploration and amazement. And then I daisy chained all of my SA pedals and the adventure started all over again.

Who cares about the Polar Vortex and snow. I'm in the middle of a Source Audio Vortex... and I have yet to investigate the Hub.

Thank you All at Source Audio for taking your time to help me fulfill audio dreams and wishes.

I just shared this with the whole team. Thank you so much.

The Hot Hand Wah Filter is a classic. When we sell what we have there will be no more.

Yeah, I just looked at the dimensions again and, honestly, I am just going to keep the dual expression pedal off the board, on the side. It will fit in the pouch on the top of the PT-Pro anyway. I just broke down and ordered the dimension reverb so I need the board space and I am not interested in going bigger than the PT-Pro, so off board it is.

For certain gigs I just use my volume pedal which makes my load in and load out easier if I have it on the pedal prop.

Off-board volume & expression pedals is how I usually go! It just saves so much more room for the 'regular' stuff & takes less than half a minute to patch those things in. Plus, I'm partial to the gigantic Visual Volume (it's buffers are great and the lights help me out on stage) & that thing eats way too much real estate!

I pulled the trigger on a HUB. I'm not sure if I will ultimately need midi control, but I want to explore it & see if I find it useful. It may be just to get more presets from the OFD - man I am in love with this thing! :bassist:

The OFD got a full litmus test yesterday with a studio session for some internet content & a rehearsal with my aggressive surf-rock band. It passed with flying colors! It's so nice being able to eq a fuzz, for example, easily and on-board! Greatness.

So, if midi implementation knocks me out, I think the Decible Eleven Switch Dr is the way for me to go. It would replace my true bypass strip and add preset ability as well as controlling patches through the HUB. In the meantime, a used Midi Mouse would be cool -but- I found this [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] little box which does the Mouse thing + adds 8 quicker access presets. Thoughts? Would a Midi Mouse just using the first 8 slots smartly be just as convenient?b

I've been using the Gecko since I started beta testing the hub in the summer. I mainly went with it over the MidiMouse for the top mounted midi connector, but the extra functionality is nice, though not truly necessary at this point for me. I also don't mind the fact that the Gecko is a little nicer looking ;)

If you have a back pack then your problem is solved. Plus you can carry all your cables, tuners, strings, batteries, DI, etc... This is what I do and I don't have to try and stuff everything into my gig bag and make it fit.

Between the PT Jr. bag and the gig bag for my Tonehammer 500, i've managed to get all my needed accesories in those two, so I'm trying my best to keep from adding any more bag/trips. I'd wouldn't mind getting another pedal or two on the board (mainly the reverb), but keeping the expression pedal on is nice. I actually don't have it velcroed on, so if I feel like it I can actually pull it off the board to the side a bit. I do have an extra PT Nano bag...maybe I'll attached to my bass gig bag and keep the expression pedal on it.

As some people suggested, I would not put it in the pocket of the PT bag. The expression pedal is fairly hefty and I wouldn't want it sitting on top of the pedals when everything is in the bag.

OK just so I am clear: If I have multiple SB2 pedals (OFD, Manta, Orbital) and the hub, but not a midi controller like the midi mouse, I can store up scenes up to the number of SB2 pedals times 2, correct? What are my options for storing and recalling scenes on the computer or Ipad/Iphone with out the midi controller on the board.

Oh and I am still a proponent of just adding the rubber feet in the box and not on the pedals. I removed mine with a small flat head and big portion of the paint came off. No biggie since I covered it with Velcro, but just seems to make sense to me with most going on boards.

Nope, need a midi controller of some sort, whether its hardware like the Mouse, or some kind of computer/ipad interface. Right now you are limited to one scene on the hub and whatever two presets you have saved on each pedal.

No.

The Hub stores the Scene data, but has no ability to change Scenes. The only way to change scenes is to send the Hub MIDI PC thus a MIDI controller of some sort is required.

Send MIDI PC 1
Hub is on Scene 1
Set your pedals up
Save the Scene
Scene 1 is now saved
Send MIDI PC 2
Hub is on Scene 2
Set your pedals up
Save the Scene
Scene 2 is now saved
Rinse and repeat

Keep in mind Scenes have nothing to do with the 2 presets saved to the pedals. Scenes are snapshots of the current settings of the pedals.

There are MIDI controller apps you can use on your iPad to send MIDI PC, as well as MIDI CC and probably MIDI Clock to the Hub. I have not done so personally, but GadgetJunky has.

lol. yeah. i mean, i have to setup a PT Pro, run an out from that to a PT Jr, hookup two sets of speakers and the power amp for them to each pedalboard, setup a keyboard stand with a laptop and midi controller and hook up the usb connections and give the outs to the board, remember to grab the HH and turn it on and set it where i can get to kt.... it's not like any of these steps are arduous, but everything added is one more bit of time or worry about forgetting something.

SIMPLE. AS. POSSIBLE. PLEASE.

but mebbe that's just me.

Perhaps if you've only got like 10 presets. I'd think that the 8 "quick-access" presets could become very useful once you start pushing 15+ scenes.

Plus it might also give you another way to order different presets where getting between two "distant" scenes quickly would be very valuable.

Right. That makes sense.

I'm not sure I would ever program more than half a dozen scenes. Probably the Midi Mouse makes more sense... it only takes a few seconds to scroll, right?

If you have a pedal train for your board, then I would think about getting the pedal prop for expression pedals, volume pedals, and wahs. http://www.pedalprops.com

Did you get one? What are the dimensions as they are not on the website. Reason for asking is that I have a PT-3 with hard case and I'm wondering if it will fit in the side compartment. At least the single anyway, or maybe put it under and put the DExP in the side compartment.

So I am wondering if I should go more of the MIDI route. I only have one SB2 pedal right now, but I have multiple other MIDI-capable pedals. I have linked them in order to share common tap tempo. My biggest question is if anyone else is using the Hub with MIDI-capable, non-SA pedals, and if so, how are you using it? My understanding is that you can't save "scenes" from these pedals (because, obviously, they don't use the SA architecture), but for various scenes you could send MIDI control messages in order to change presets on those other pedals as you change "scenes"?

My other biggest concerns about diving in with a Hub are:
(1) I don't know if I have room for the extra MIDI controller
(2) I would really love to better know how to tie the tap tempo of my non-SA pedals and my Manta. It's been said this is possible, but I'm not clear on how this is done.

I have a double wide and a single wide. I can get you the dimensions tonight after my gig. I'm at work and have to go straight to the gig so that will be the earliest I can get the dimensions to you.

They do have the dimensions on the website. I think both are 24" long and either 7 1/2" or something like 24" wide I believe. I could be mistaken but I could've sworn that's what I saw. Nice little sideboards. I'm trying to think how I could get one to work on my board. You can get them to go on the right or left side too.

How do you do this currently? What device is generating the tap tempo, and how it is sharing that tempo to be synced with your other devices?

If you have some device that sends MIDI Clock, that can be used by the Hub to sync tempo to Source Audio pedals. I've verified this with the Manta filter LFO.

The Hub does not currently generate any MIDI data other than MIDI CC from a connected HotHand or Expression pedal using a MIDI CC of your choice. You could then send that data to your other pedals. But beyond that the Hub does not currently save/generate MIDI data at all.

Instead you send the Hub MIDI PC and CC and it passes that along via the MIDI Out/Thru jack, or via the sensor outputs to SoundBlox pedals.

For #1, you'll have to figure that out.

For #2, this could be done by sending MIDI Clock to all of your MIDI gear, including the Hub. Again, currently none of the SourceAudio hardware generates MIDI Clock. You'll have to do that with some other piece of gear.
