My wife surprised me with a hot hand 3 for my birthday (woohoo!!) My question is: would I be able to use an a/b box to switch between hh and expression control of a pedal? I think I read something about this, but my search turned up nothing. Thanks for the help and thanks to SA for creating some of the most innovative products for musicians that I've seen in a long time!

I bet you could use some sort of mechanical shut-off, but why wouldn't you just set up presets with the HH and Expression pedals active when you need them? I just got a Midi Mouse to scroll through the presets so I wouldn't have to reach down and push the bank button. It also depends on which pedal you are trying to control. Hopefully it's the BEF PRo

I will be controlling a BEF pro, but also a Xerograph deluxe. My question was specifically regarding the Xero. Thanks, though!

Hey Mr. Sterling, Jeff Moote built me this l'il badboy for just that thing (for now, the BEF Pro and the Xero Dlx, but I'll add the out of this into a new Mission Expressionator soon...):

It's a TRS switcher that works flawlessly and looks pretty damn cool. Switches between an expression pedal input or the HH3 input so I can control things with my feet or hands....I love it!

Basehead, my man!!! That looks perfect. Tiny, pretty, and exactly the function I need. Looks like I owe a PM to Mr. Moote!!!

BTW, just read about the Hartke deal. Congrats!

Hey GadgetJunky,

The knob control parameters are listed in the manual, they are extracted on our website in this pdf:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Remapping – you need to write the desired PC value to the pedal while a save is in progress (while the footswitch LED is blinking). You can remap the preset banks by saving a preset per normal procedure (pressing and holding the desired footswitch). Send your MIDI bank signal while the preset light is blinking and you will have remapped the MIDI corresponding bank.

Phantom power – We don’t use it but our MIDI inputs should be able to accept it without an issue.

So no remapping the bypass #7. I think I can
work around that pretty easily.

:help: Is anyone controlling any EHX effects with the HH3? I'm trying to use the expression on the HH3 to control my EHX Deluxe Memory Boy and it seems like it's not doing anything. (When I set expression to control delay, for example, any movement of my hand doesn't change the delay time, same with rate, depth and feedback.) The link between the HH3 and the ring is working because I can control my BEF Pro. Both knobs are green so the expression should be set at the X axis and X & Y for the sensor out. I'm sure it is something I'm doing wrong. I tried the reverse settings by moving the switches on the bottom of the HH3 and that didn't do anything. Also played around moving the smooth and depth knobs on the HH3 and nothing changed. Am I possibly using the wrong cable or something? The expression needs a TRS cable and I thought my patch cable was TRS. Most likely operator error as usual. Also, on a random note, would toe down position be where I calibrate the bottom of the X axis? Thanks for any help!

are you powering it with the adapter or off your BEF Pro? Apparently you have to have the power adapter to use the TRS out.

TRS means tip, ring, sleve, so be sure that your cable looks like a sterro headphone cable and not a guitar/bass 1/4 inch cable.

I would also try to drive the BEF Pro with the expression signal (not the sensor signal) to be sure that part of the system is working.

We have used HH3 with a number of EHX pedals. The Sitar one was very cool.

I saw the video with the Ravish Sitar, that was awesome. So the switches were just on normal then? And I'll double check the cable when I get home from work. That's probably my problem. I'll also use the expression in on the BEF Pro to make sure it works. Thanks for the help!

Checked my cable last night and it turns out it is not a TRS cable. Figured it would be operator error. Hopefully pick one up this weekend and I'm sure it will work perfectly. Thanks again!

Awesome. So I assume that the HH3 comes with a 1/8" 4 conductor patch cable for the multi-function/HH connection, but no TRS cable in the box?
