Source Audio suggestions thread

Ah, comb filters too.

The only reason I think this pedal would be great for the Soundblox2 line is because of their interface style. One knob and button combo can do several things, and that's not super common among other builders. For example, something as basic as input and output gain and a 3-band parametric EQ is already anywhere from 8 to 11 knobs for the average pedal. The multifunctionality that SA brings to the table could cut that down to, what, 3 knobs and a couple of buttons?

Looking at an existing SB2 pedal for comparison's sake I can totally imagine one possible way to implement this idea.

The option button on the left (noise gate in this image) could cycle through options like "Bass","Bass Q","Mid","Mid Q", "Treble", "Treble Q" while the one on the right (Tone Shape) could essentially copy the exact layout in the above image.

The drive knob (same location as pictured here) could control the amount of grit added to the signal (going from perfectly clean to a subtle breakup to slightly furry at the extreme) and the output knob would also maintain it's purpose.

I'm not entirely sure what role the center wheel would play here since the option button+knob combo I've described already seems flexible enough to implement a 3-band parametric EQ. Furthermore, I'm not entirely sure what additional benefit trying to cram different filter types in here would have. Correct me if I'm wrong but I feel like there wouldn't be much benefit to multiple bands of low or high pass filtering? Some way to mix filter types seems like the most powerful solution. Admittedly I don't know a tremendous amount about filters, however!

IMO , the center wheel mode could be 12 emulations of various bass preamps like:

SVT
B15
Fender Showman (or alembic F2B)
Aguilar DB751
Sunn 200S (or 2000S)
Hartke 3500
Acoustic 360
Mesa Boogie
Orange AD200B
Marshall SuperBass
HiWatt 200

Ok, yeah, if you can get this done, I'll be ok with you guys pushing back the delay/echo ;)

Source Audio vacations cancelled previously in post.

Weekends and sleep on the chopping block tomorrow. You guys are tough!

Just focus on my suggestions and you can have sleep and Sundays back. :hiding:

I would add that someone out there needs to do a genuinely good emulation of GK's power-amp growl, which while not technically a pre-amp thing, would fit in with the others suggested by JohnK10.

I wouldn't be opposed to removing the Hartke 3500 in my list and inserting a GK 800RB in its place. ;)

Now if this preamp were to double as a DI wouldn't a speaker sim be a good idea as well? Imagine a hub setup that not only gives you any effect you wanted but any amp and cabinet configuration at one stomp!!!

You guys realize that if SA actually makes those, we will have to find the money to buy these. Maybe we should give them a few ideas at a time, let them make those, wait a bit, give them a few more ideas, repeat the cycle. :)

Anyway, I know it was mentioned before, but updating the eq pedal to work with the hub would be nice as well. Or maybe just make a small adapter that would translate the midi messages so you could connect the eq pedal to the hub like any other sb2 pedal?

The EQ can be used with the Hub. We did this at NAMM. You are limited to 4 presets.

The MIDI port on the EQ is not bi-directional, so it cannot talk to the Hub in the same way as a SB2 can.

Ok, so you connect the hub midi out to the EQ's midi port? Or do you a midi y cable to connect the controller and the eq to the hub's in port?

That's the one.

From my understanding, this only allows you to access the 4 presets already saved on the EQ (and turn the effect on and off). It does not allow you to create up to 128 "scenes" like with the SB2 pedals because the communication is not bi-directional and its MIDI implementation does not allow you to adjust the effect's parameters 'remotely.'

That is it. Well said.

Interesting...

Here's a thought. It might not be the most sexy idea but how about a power supply aimed to power the whole hub setup right down to a 5v for the HH3 and all the shielded transformers to supply Soundblox2 pedals and the hub? If you have 5 SB2 pedals, the Hub, and the HH3 you would need 6 transformers to handle 9v and 200mA each and one that would need to be 5v.

SA suggestions. I would have to say something like "let Jesse do whatever he thinks up". I was a beta tester on the hub and the way he approached it was perfect. It simplifies the whole midi setup but still has open doors to some seriously advanced midi functions like total CC control over every parameter and the the midi CC output of the hot hand and expression pedal bridge the hub with the midi-usb and midi-exp. And who here has a midi-usb? Originally I thought it was just a receiver for a laptop, but you set it up on a laptop then burn your settings 'to the stick' and it saves all the settings to the midi-usb and use it in the ipad. Nobody else can come up with stuff. So what's next? I'm ready to be amazed.
