Source for Nickel or Chrome adhesive transfer decal.

PM me your email and I'll send you the correspondence I had with Oudensha.

That said, my guess is that you can do much better for yourself by going to a trusted vendor on Ali.

I'll be looking into that once I deplete this supply.

I just emailed the original Oudensha quote to you.

It looks pretty pricey compared to what's available these days.

I'm guessing that's why they closed up shop in the US.

I have an email in to DT Metronic to see if they can be more competitive on a re-order.

Otherwise, I'm likely to start from scratch with my next batch.

So, I got the quote back from DT Metronic and the pricing is way more competitive than Oudensha was.

It could be because the setup costs were absorbed by Oudensha, but re-ordering from DT is really the only option for me.

I'll shoot you the email.

Thanks!

Thanks man, I got your email. That is definitely much more competitive. I will probably go ahead and place an order with them.

It took them two weeks to get back to me, but their pricing was worth the wait.

If you have any issues connecting with them, just give them a quick follow up.

Thanks!

Sure will, I have to get with a friend of mine to get the graphic worked up, then I will email them the information.

Hmmmmmm....

Just wondering here - I don't know anything about these 3D stick on metallic logos. I wonder how the adhesive is and if anyone has seen how well they perform over years and years. They probably have been around for a while - but not long enough to say I suppose. Would be a bummer if a few years down the road your headstock logo falls off....

I think I am much more comfortable with a conventional decal that you finish over and seal rather than something you stick on top of the finish. I can see myself polishing the headstock and having the logo catch on the cloth and pulling it off.

Hopkins, I know you have a guy, but I have been doing some designs and I would jump at the idea of getting my hat in the ring on your logo if you give me some hints....

It's still a work in progress - but here is one I am working on for myself:

The one on the right is trans and acts as a window to reflect whatever you have behind it.

Well the nickle stick decal will be buried under the finish just like a water slide, just more elegant looking in my opinion. My design is very simple, Its all text, I just don't have the software to do a high res image.

I am also thinking about coming up with a design for the back of the headstock as well. I have some ideas but I need to finalize them.

Hey Hopkins

Wow, didn't know you finish over them? Pretty cool, then. I can pop this into Illustrator and try enlarging it and saving it hi res. Sometimes it works better than other. You want this grey as it appears here, or should be be black? And, I shouldn't assume anything, but this looks like actual size?

I got the silvers and golds pretty barking in a variety of foils and leaf:

Definitely a very cool logo you have there.

Yeah. I tried pulling it in and banging it up - and it's one of those cases where you can't really hide the lo-res of this particular image. Sometimes you win sometimes not. If you are spending a decent chunk to make this exquisite, I would say it's beyond my ability as is. I mean, I could easily spend a few hours edging it and you would still likely be disappointed.

Any chance you remember which font was used? I thought it was similar to the Frigidaire font or the old Chevrolet font, called Belair, but no cigar....

If you can figure out the font you used, it's a piece of cake, but I know that can be a needle in a haystack...

Yes, the electroformed logos by Oudensha/DT have been used in the industry for quite a while, and most often they are buried under clear on headstocks like the Fender American Deluxe series and Ibanez RG below:

Hey thanks Brad. I appreciate you showing me these.

They look nice, that is for sure - no denying that!

The 3D thing is a bit of an acquired taste for me though - takes a little getting used to.

I guess I am far too old school/old fashioned - I really prefer a perfectly executed more subtle yet striking decal that blends in more with the surface of the wood.

Just finished mine for the southwestern Fender twins week and got them off to Keith:

Reworked these images for the "Dreamcatcher" and "Thunderchief" models:

I really needed some turquoise on the headstocks to continue the thread of the turquoise inlays so I did special Fender spaghetti decals using the stone of the inlays in the background. These are not my headstocks and not to scale - just very quick mock-ups i did to check how they look:

The Thunderchief thing is very sentimental - it is what my father had re-named the 1929 Ford Model A Hot Rod I inherited - which has a huge Pontiac V8 motor. I ended up keeping his original name of the hot rod "Bernadine" - after the Pat Boone song and movie of the same name - so I wanted to dedicate this bass to his memory.

Rick,

I get it completely, and my intent was to get Hopkins the details on exactly what he asked for.

Where he goes from there is up to him.

It took me probably two years to discover the chrome logos were "electroformed", not cut from vinyl or plastic.

After that, I was able to track down Oudensha as the main supplier for guitar builders.

Over the last couple of years, prices have come down and other vendors have become more accessible.

For those of us who like the 3D chrome effect, it's just nice to know they can be had affordably in relatively smaller quantities.

;)

ABSOLUTELY!

Another one of those nice design touches that makes your brand special and - well makes your brand your brand!

No right or wrong at all just a question of style and I am glad you were able to help him out with those....

Hey Hopkins, no sweat - my treat. I enjoy this kind of work.

I could only find it in standard type for free, but no biggie. I sheared it in Illustrator to create the italic effect, bolded it a bit by increasing the stroke size just slightly and I added the underline in Illustrator with the line tool - then I cleaned it up a bit on the left edge. If this is close enough, let me know. I can size this however you want - if you like it we have a high res version now. I am thinking that you are looking for black only - but if you want to experiment with some outlines and use some silver and gold foils and leaf fills let me know. I would just PM this back to you, but I can't figure out how to send the graphic that way unless it is posted to the web.

Let me know if you like it - I can send you various sizes ready for your print process if you need them.

That looks fantastic. As far as sizing goes, its hard to say until I print it out. I am not home this weekend, but when I get home I will see how that size works when I print it out on 5x7 decal paper. It will be perfect to send to Oudensha to get a quote, I really appreciate it, as I am not tech savy at all.

Hey Hopkins

I have always enjoyed reading your posts and here is a chance for me to give a little back.

This should have you covered. These are transparent and ready to go at 300 dpi. Can go higher if you need to, but these should do the trick. I find that most folks like decals in the 2" to 3.5" range end to end for the most part. So I started just under 1.5" and took you up to over 4" in 10% increments. One of these should be pretty close. They are exact size you can drag off the sheet and print it out and you can find the right size by holding them up to a headstock. If I am in-between and not quite there, let me know the exact size you need when you get home and it takes like 30 seconds to do it for you.

Cheers!
