Yeah the ATE v2 is quite enticing to replace my FG v2 (only have room for one or the other)... but I can see how it's best suited for first-in-chain uses, particularly if switching instruments, neither of which applies in my case. My ideal Fifth Gear variant would be very similar to ATE v2, but with some notable differences. Rather than an always-on buffer, a pedal with 2 true-bypass footswitches and 3 knobs:

• Footswitch A to toggle a Fifth Gear circuit on/off, with dedicated Gain and Volume knobs
• Footswitch B to toggle a clean boost on/off, with a dedicated Volume knob

The clean and dirty channels could each be stomped on individually (clean boost or dialed-in dirt), or together (dirty boost). I already put light dirt and clean boost after octave/fuzz/filter but before modulation, etc., so this would be (for me at least) an awesome middle-of-the-chain utility pedal. Icing on the cake would be a toggle switch to flip the order of the channels, so you could boost before or after the dirt. Won't hold my breath, though!

Yeah I just checked out the video. I haven't been on their website since I bought my Ictineo, and at that time it wasn't even up on the site yet.

So, I recently added a MBD-1 and a v2 Fifth Gear to my pedal board, and used them for the first time last night in my space dubdoom band... and I am here to report that the Fifth Gear>Ictineo combo was the STAR of the show. This combo produced some of the best bass tone I've heard... ever. The MBD-1 was also pretty killer.
