Southampton Pedals show some love thread!!

The Fuzzrocious BDPG (Broke Dick Peanut Gallery) is actually related to the Ictineo in a Kevin Bacon sort of way. This one is part of a limited run where an additional clean gain state was added, custom hand painted with a glow in the dark case. The previous version was designed to be a dirty version of the Zeibek /Music Electronix Submarine bass preamp that was later upgraded to the Designer Submarine that is now the Southhampton Ictineo.

Finally came home from my 3 month deployment and unpacked my Ictineo. We are selling our house so all my gear was packed away for the showings. Had to get everything back together before I could plug it in and see what all the fuss was about.

Initial impressions: I could see this being a very useful tone shaping tool for live use or, in my case, most likely for a preamp for recording because you can make changes so easily and some of them are pretty drastic. I really dig it. Build quality is great. What the switches do is labeled in very tiny writing, and with that bright white light with white writing it's very difficult to see what each switch does. So I have two options at this point: paint the knob with some fingernail polish to hopefully dim it, or memorize all the switch positions. That's really my only complaint. But the switches are pretty easy to remember so it's not a huge deal. Overall it was a great purchase that I look forward to using while recording. It's good stuff.

I finally got a chance to play through my Fifth Gear V1 today and all I can say is wow! It's the low gain OD tone I've been looking for. Currently I'm keeping the gain between 9-10 o'clock and I'm loving the sound even though the entire range of the knob is full of useful sounds. If someone is on the fence about either the V1 or V2 I say "believe the hype!" Amazing pedal!!

How does everyone use their 5th gear? Picked up a V1 to go on my nano board strictly based on the hype. Is there a preferred setting or placement? The 9-10 o'clock range looks to be the sweet spot. Using it always on, or as a boost? I'm also trying to balance it with a Fairfield Accountant, and I have a Proton on the way that may benefit from the extra heat from the 5G...

Edit: here is my planned signal chain if you want to suggest alternatives (3leaf ones are in the mail): Turbo Tuner>Octabvre Mini>
5G>Proton>Accountant>
Whirlwind Phaser (optional, if it fits)
