A new Hubble image of the left side galaxy being "sucked in" by the galaxy on the right. The process takes billions of years, and the merger is a very gentle event. Surprisingly, as the galaxies merge, the stars from both galaxies will miss each other given the massive distances between them. Our own galaxy will merge with the galaxy Andromeda.
Most of you will know this already but if you look up casually you can make out a thick band of stars in a giant swipe across the sky. That's our galaxy ''The Milky Way''.

The festivities start at 4:15 PM EDT on Tuesday for Chris Cassidy's return home with the official handing off of command of the ISS ceremony. Once the capsule detaches from the ISS, Expedition 63 will be over and Expedition 64 starts. This time a woman will be representing the USA on board with two Russian cosmonauts.
I think it's funny that the longest part of Chris's ride home will be once he gets to earth. Then he has to get from a remote village in Russia back to the USA. That won't take three hours like it is going to take the Soyuz MS-16 to get from the ISS to that Russian village.

Starting at 5 p.m. ET today, there will be a live broadcast from Lockheed Martin of the Osiris-REx's descent to the surface of Bennu and sample collection attempt. This livestream can be watched on NASA's website. Touchdown will be about 6:12 PM. Osiris-REx will remain in orbit around Bennu for about a year and will return to Earth with the samples in 2023.
Bennu is so intriguing to me, I'm not sure why. The USA is about to accomplish something really historic today, and what Japan has done so far is cool too.
I love that they call their satellite Hayabusa, my favorite street bike.
