I was seeing Nazgul. But... it is beautiful. I will repeat myself, every day I get up, make a pot of coffee, open my laptop, and log on to see if there are any updates to this thread.

I put it all together to see how it's gonna look. This is just a couple of spit coats of shellac

As someone said earlier, the side port creates the perfect cat lair (he didnt go in though)

Finish sanding on the neck tomorrow and then I can start french polishing!

Hoo boy, the pores in this walnut, I swear there are some areas that are like a portal to another dimension, everything I pack into them just disappears.
I ended up reverting to the good 'ole pumice and shellac method in some spots. I'd like to introduce everyone to the star of the show the past couple of days:

This little guy really did a good job, he's a little worse for wear, and is now sleeping peacefully in a jar in case I need him again.

Anyway, the back is starting to get a shine:

I've pretty much only done thin, open-grain satin finishes on my own instruments, but there is definitely something magic about a well done glossy pore-filled surface like that.

Well, I'm about done with the finish, might do a few more sessions tomorrow, but I think we are now into the 2 week cure time for the shellac. Then I will buff it out, attach the bridge, make the nut and string her up!
