Wow! I know there's often some confusion regarding the Streamer and the NS to those who don't know that Warwick totally ripped-off the design and were... to be respectful of the rules... were feminine hygienic washes about it...

But this. I love this. Not sure which is is... just call it both.

I'm pretty sure this is one of those apocalyptic signs that Dr. Peter Vinkman talked about when in jail reviewing the architectural plans for 55 Central Park West... next we'll have dogs and cats sleeping together.

Really the 8x8 is good? Even for rock? There actually is one for sale locally ... ya a 412.. that what i dream of at night.... coming with a new Spector:bassist:

Yep , I've used them in only rock settings . They are killer . Put a 500 watt head on em and rock the walls ! They handle the low b strings with ease. Up till the go light , I have had everything swr makes . I really like the 8x8 paired with a sm500 .

Ampeg was my go to company . But the 8x10 just don't cut it with my rex5 . The low b just don't come through like on my gs412 . Up till ampeg moving overseas I have had almost everything they offer . With the exception of a 70s svt and a straight back 810 I'll never go back . But I wouldn't gig with that set up anymore . The svt3pro would be my head of choice and the 810 cab .

I do however wanna try a tone hammer 500 on my gs412 . Not sure if it would be that much better than my mark bass lm3 ... But I'm about sold solid on the gs412. Sometimes wish I had a 212 for smaller shows .

aaaaha!!! gotcha! can't we all just get along? Warwick and Spector are brother and sister...

OK... I don't really look at it this way... brother and sister would imply that at some time the two were born together or at least in the same family.

Warwick has a long-standing history of "borrowing" other company's designs and then in making copies, claiming that their versions are superior in craftsmanship and design, blah, blah.

Perhaps they are brother and sister in a world where Jerry Springer episodes are the norm and accepted. The streamer would be the illegitimate brother (or sister... doesn't matter) that stole your identity, charged a bunch of porn to your cable bill while you were working, got drunk and lost control of their bowls, smearing it all over your walls, and then has the nerve to say all of the messed up stuff they've done is your fault because they just can't seem to come to terms with the fact that no matter how hard they try, will never measure up.

Under a set of parameters such as those listed above, sure, I can see Warwick being that family member.

Trust me, when you think of all the $$$ Warwick has made from designs that were not theirs, that they aggressively target other companies (in a typical imperialistic/germanic way) and yet they sue Status Graphite in England for making copies of the "Buzzard" bass... They are hypocrites in the most basic definition of the word.

But the good news is that they will never win. Because I have to believe that winners never cheat and cheaters never win. It's fair play that sets winners apart. In my opinion, those guys will never amount to anything other than wannabe copy-cats.

Forget the basses they build. If you want a superior bass... get an original. Which would preclude you purchasing the majority of what they make.

They did my friend Stuart Spector dirty. They lied and they've attacked him, attacked his company, and been generally unpleasant. I'm the loyal kind of person who will defend his friends when they are done wrong.

Other than a full written apology published in Bass Player Magazine and the back-royalty fees owed to Stuart for the 25+ years they've made the streamer and not paid the license fees they agreed, I'll continue to tell the truth and be outspoken in regards to their disgusting treatment of someone I consider a close friend.

Not to start a war on a touchy subject here....but didn't Warwick legally license the NS design from Kramer?

No. In 1985 Stuart discovered the (then identical shape including headstock) Warwick Streamer. Stuart and Ned Steinberger met with HP Wilfer and he agreed to pay a license fee and put (licensed by SPECTOR) on the Streamer. I've seen the signed agreement.

Stuart and Alan (his business partner in Spector Guitars) sold later that year to Kramer. And the guys at Kramer didn't consider Warwick anything but some German knock-off company and therefore they never bothered with enforcing the agreement.

When Kramer folded and Stuart started SPECTOR back up, he went after Warwick, who claimed that since the agreement was with Spector Guitars and not Stuart Spector Design, they shouldn't be made to honor it. My thing is that honestly Ned Steinberger got the worst of it because Warwick was supposed to pay him as well. Ned did design the NS-Bass after all.

More back and forth in court and eventually Warwick changed the body enough (bridge, headstock, upper horn shape) that Stuart finally dropped the suit.

The nasty thing was that during the two years that Stuart didn't make any guitars waiting for the dust to settle from Kramer, Warwick decided that they were in the clear and ironically a whole bunch of "alternative history" was put out on the streets... things like the design was originally Warwick's, that they had paid Stuart (which they had not) and a bunch of other nonsense. It muddied the waters with many bass players and there are still a bunch who don't know the story.

I've heard it from Stuart first hand... not something I recommend anyone talk to him about unless you want to really get him angry. And I've talked with Ned Steinberger about it.

It was funny to me that when Andy Irvine accepted a paid employee position with Warwick, he even came at me with some way-off the mark stuff, it would seem the boys at Warwick gloss over the ugly parts and actually try to sound as if they were victims of some sort in all of this and it was some big misunderstanding. But it's not. I've seen the original license document... read what it said... saw HP Wilfer's signature in ink...

The bottom line is that they got caught/busted making identical copies of the NS-Bass, were threatened with a lawsuit and being blocked from North America, they signed an agreement they never intended to honor, then spent years trying to use loopholes in international law to get out of paying Stuart and Ned what they rightfully owe them.

I have a word in my dictionary for people like that... it's a simple four-letter word: scum.

I don't think they make bad guitars. I'd argue that the $10,000 Streamer that Andy Irvine showed me (which is a Warwick version of my Black Pearl) is anything worth the price they're asking... and at $4000 less The Black Pearl is a superior bass in every aspect.

For me it's the way they do business that makes me never want to own any of their products.

has anyone used SWR cabs with their Spector? There is an obvious love for Ampeg.... and I would probably go Aguilar if I could afford it.... just exploring my options

I would also recommend checking out some cabs with 12"s. Although I'm not playing Aguilar, I'd put my Mesa Powerhouse 412 up against the Aguilar GS412 any day. This cab LOVES my Spector Euro 5LX's low B.

No, not yet. The Wife says "No" at least until we get our tax return. :bawl:
So I still have a chance then :eyebrow: like if I ordered it say today?! :D

Would it be stupid of me to buy the TBLE bass in black?
I'm afraid black isn't an option for the TBLE. :ninja: But if you wanted a regular Forte you could.
Serious question: is this Forte going to make me not want to play my Euro's anymore?

If so, I might as well just order two LOL.
You just might...there are some here that have sold all Euros after playing their first USA! I'll see soon enough when I get my first Forte...if it was worth selling my Ian Hill for. Like Lima and Others have said..they each have their own flavor.

Im sure everyone will love to get their hands on this new addtion in the Guitarcenter used section.

The SWR cab to have is the Henry 8x8 ! Very versatile and easy to move . But do yourself a favor , skip ampeg and swr and get you an Aguilar with some 12s . My gs412 is the game changer !

I second this.
Ask yourself this...why is there ONLY 2 acclaimed Aguilar cabinet users in this club??? That I've noticed anyways. No offense meant guys. Just making an observation, okay. :hiding: :)

Really the 8x8 is good? Even for rock? There actually is one for sale locally ... ya a 412.. that what i dream of at night.... coming with a new Spector:bassist:
Do yourself a favor and take your bass to a music store where there's a good variety of amps/cabs and try them all. Just make sure the Ampeg is last because that'll be the last rig you'll ever want to play thru. :smug:

I will not be an enabler...
ME NIETHER!!! :scowl::spit:

Not really. You hear about it from time to time, but not with every bass. Honestly, I've never encountered a frozen truss rod nut, and I've done setups on over 30 basses in the last 5 years.

If you've had a problem with every bass, then it's either a storage condition problem or (and please don't take offense here) a lack of experience. Sometimes people are afraid to put ANY force into a truss rod nut, which would make it seem frozen. Some turn easier than others. I would take your Spector to a qualified tech and have him examine it.

I'm a 5'5" girl, so I'm probably not putting much force in to it at all. I could use more force but I don't want to break anything. I have to ask though - how hard is it to break a steel rod? I would think that it would take a massive amount of effort to break it or strip the threads.

I had been thinking the same thing also. With all the rain that the UK gets, the air must be saturated even though it doesn't feel tropical like.
How do you store your basses when not playing them? How about anyone else here that lives in high moisture areas? Do you have the same issue or do you use dehumidifyers?

I've had 8 basses in 3 years and not run into a frozen truss rod yet. :ninja: I don't think it's so common. Perhaps you're not using enough umph!;) I don't mean any offense either. Take it to a tech for a second set of eyes. Good luck! Cheers! :)

I'd like to take it to a tech but there are a few reasons why I haven't yet - they are insanely expensive, and also I don't want to leave my bass there for a week or two. I'm a bit protective :(

I store my basses on a rack stand in my bedroom when they're not being played.

I know he also uses the Megoliath cabinets as well which are 8x10's if I am not mistaken. He supposedly uses one on each side of the stage with an SWR 1500 watt head driving each cabinet.
I've seen in some of his videos Ampeg rigs...I swear I did!

Then had you ever tried the Ampeg PR line? My PR-410HLF along with the PF-500 mates and loved my NS-95 to death!!! That thing was "Low B Sonic blaster"!!!! Lol It'd make your hair stand straight out permanently! Lol :D

And ther you go...Why would any SPECTOR loyal member want to support that?! This last week I listened to a video that Andy posted on FB...I said to myself as I was shaking my head...Andy, you got the skills going on but, that bass just doesn't have the sound that I personally like to hear. Definately not as nice to the ears as SPECTORS. IMHO.

Out of curiosity, has anybody got his (drgroove111) Photobucket link, supposedly to that Spector 5, to work?

It either loops back to the Talkbass page I'm on or opens my own Photobucket page. Weird.
Yes! I opened it this morning on my iPhone.

You might want to consider leaving them in their cases when not playing them if they're getting too much moisture that is. And put a couple discacent packs (moisture removers, don't think I spelled right) into the case also. Do you know any guys that you could trust to try and turn the truss rods? Just to see...cheers! :)
