Never assume!! lol basses don't come with instrument cables, and you can't use them without one... just saying... the suspense is kiling me now.... there has to be a music store near you that you can get a cable at...

I've decided to ditch the Alembic pups and pre in my ns-2a to put in some EMGs.... If they sell I will be on the lookout for a set of EMGs and either a tonepump or bt system.... I'm even throwing around the idea of a TP jr... but it seems most folks don't use that one.
EMG HZ's and a Tonepump are a heavenly combination, probably my favourite thing about my old Spector! Though in future I'd like to try something with Barts and a Tonepump...I can only imagine how cool that would sound!

Add a little treble and you get more of that growl that we all love, but the bass control usually turns it to mud pretty fast. You pretty much need to dial in the same amount of treble to counter it. However, I'm pretty sure the pre that's in my modulus is the EMG bt system. Granted, these are totally different basses, but I found that pre to be more sensitive, a slight turn goes a long way.
Slightly unrelated, but I'm looking to maybe put new Pups in my legend. It sounds good with the volume on both full up, but when I try to dial back the bridge pickup a little bit the sound gets kind of 'honky', and it doesn't get that nice, deeper response that I get from turning back the bridge pup on other basses. Would EMG Hzs be a good replacement? I'm debating whether or not to ditch the pre... At that point I'd probably be investing more in this bass than I'd like to...
But I think a pickup change would be a good place to start. Suggestions, anyone?

ya I had those in my Performer DLX but I think I'm going to go with active pups.... but who knows lol

I put EMG HZs and a tonepump in my Performer 4DLX and I loved it, the HZs sound a lot better than the SSD pups IMHO definitely worth it. I would start with pups and go from there.. unless someone somewhere has a great deal for you.
How much of an upgrade did you think the new pickups and tonepump were on the performer deluxe? I'm considering changing out the electronics in mine.
GK cabinets come with a special speakon cable that allows bi-amping the tweeter. Hope this clarifies.

And thanks for the info- it looks like HZs might be the way to go. I've heard both good and bad things about them, but from what I've gathered they seem to work quite well in spectors.

It was a huge improvement. It was a more well rounded sound and I was able to get the low end thump i was looking for. Better suited for holding the low end down. I got a really good deal so it was a no brainer for me. If I was paying new prices, I would just save up for a used Legend or NS-2A.
Here is a video, its a flip camera so its not the best (wear headphone to here bass well) this is an Ashdown mag 300 head with mids boosted a little and the Performer DLX both pickups on full and bass at 100% and treble at 90%

Depending on how my taxes are going to look and maybe moving a bass or two, I *might* order a green 5. That's a big might though.
Im going with the blue as well and adding the HAZ pre. Many predicted a glut of Spectors on sale. It's starting to happen. I am getting ready to post my beloved NS4CRFM. There are also several other really nice EuroLXs currently in the classifieds. Hope to be able to move mine in the next couple of weeks so I can order my TBLE.
