Mother's Milk was recorded with a SPECTOR NS-2 and NS-2A. Flea had a black NS-2A which he covered in stickers. And a Black NS-2 that may have been lost in the fire at his house a few years ago. His place burnt to the ground and many of his vintage basses were lost.

I haven't talked to him about it but if I run into him at NAMM this year I'll ask. He's actually a very approachable guy.

Nice! I use a slightly larger version of that same rig (MB500 and MBX 410. Well, the cab is a different series, but similar.) sounds great with that Spector growl IMO.

<sigh> Just admit it JPS, you don't like the USA bolt-ons :D You know I am totally kidding I hope. :) While I would love to get an NS-5XL, I would be looking at another 2 grand minimum and one of the things I really love about the USA bolt-ons is the option of the wide string spacing.

I have my eye on a certain USA bolt-on with Wide spacing that was at BPL actually and hope nobody scoops it up before I get my tax return.

Try a wider non-slip strap... I'm looking forward to seeing the new SPECTOR Neoprene strap at NAMM. I haven't seen one yet.

Also, the shaft size for the Schallers and the Ultralight Hipshots and the anchor bolt pattern are what you need to look at. Some older Schallers have an anchor bolt at 90 degrees from the tuner key while others are in line with the tuner key. So make sure you know where any replacement tuner anchors so you don't have to drill new holes for that.

Widening the shaft isn't a big-big deal, but you have to be really careful because you can damage the headstock's finish.

The Gotoh tuners that go on the USA models have a fatter shaft than the Euro Schallers and so you can't install them as a replacement unless you tap the tuning peg holes larger.

I'd see what a wider, non-slip strap would do first.

+1 on a wider strap, my Performer Deluxe 5 (bolt-on) had a bit of neck dive and the Spector Comfort Strapp really helped a lot with that.

You got me... I hate to admit it... I'm not a fan of the US Bolts. They're beautiful and they're made by Stuart... but I'm not a fan of the less rounded (more like the Legend Series) bodies.

If they were still fully carved like the ReBop then I'd probably feel more for them. There's something so sexy and appealing about the USA Neck-thru and Europe Series (all of them).

The USA Bolt-On 4 strings do not have neck-dive issues. But this 5-string I have here shocked me at how neck-heavy it is.

I do like the neck profiles of the USA Bolts. They're really comfortable and they're fast.

I'm not a fan (sorry SAM) of the Aguilar circuits. They're great circuits, but I prefer the Haz. So there's some things about the USA Bolts I'd change if I was ever going to order one.

But really, I'm so in love with the USA Neck-Thru models I think I'll probably never order a USA Bolt anyway.

As an affordable solution... meaning they're not THAT much more expensive than the Euro Neck-Thru models... you can't beat their value for the money.

I'm just sort of a purist I suppose. I really love the fully carved rounded, sexy curves of the original NS shape.

It sounds like a hot rodded ReBop might work well for you. At a minimum, swap out the EMG HZ pups for a couple of actives of your choice (there are several!). Maybe change the bridge and the nut.

As stated a few times here, I'm a big fan of the ReBops, even if the Euros are my favorite. They have a punchy thump with the Spector growl. Nice!!!

I've never played a ReBop but comments like this make me think a ReBop might be my bass... that would round out the diversity of my bass collection... P/J setup, J/J setup and Humbucker Setup. Booyah...
