A few years back I was totally looking for that sound. And if your looking for it its the Modulus flea...I first tried the Musicman Stingray and it gave me like 80% of the flea sound then i ordered a custom Modulus from grasshopper at bass central and it was 100% of the sound. couldn't tell the difference between my recording and the cd. Best bass in my opinion for slap but you can't get any warm sound from it and those basses are heavy like a bastard....:bassist:

It still amazes me how much room there is in the Jazz bass market. I'm happy to read that the Coda is doing so well. Congrats!

Now, how about a Spector Precision Bass?

I'm asking because I'm not a Jazz bass guy. The Precision is my second favorite bass. Of course, the Spector NS design is my first favorite.

Speaking of NS-2s.

Below are some photos of me with a Brooklyn NS-2 that I played at NJ Guitar & Bass Center last week.

I went to check it out for a fellow Talkbass member who has decided to buy it.

Mr. JeffplaysBass should have his hands on this bass by Weds of this week. :hyper::bassist:

P.S. IMHO, the thinest neck I have every played.

Congrats Jeff! That bass is pretty killer. And just like Lima said, the neck is ridiculously thin. The bass is also super hot compared to any other Spector I have heard. It was a friend of mine's and he said that whenever he switched to it the guys in the band always told him to turn down. It was the only time he would because it was that loud. Enjoy it!

Everyband I've ever played that with my Spector goes: "YEAH! That's it!!!" I get that exact sound on that song.

Not to mention there was no Modulus Flea back then. :smug:

Hi everyone!
I am a Spector newbie (after playing Warwick exclusively for over 10 year). I just bought a black SSD NS-5CR and it sounds great!!! (Pics coming soon)

A few newbie questions:
It has a bit of a neckdive. Is that a common problem? Would it be possible to change the tuners to some lighter ones? I think it has some Schaller M4s. Would Hipshot Ultralites fit?

In the control cavity there is a small dipswitch with two switches. Anyone knows what that do?

If you have the emg Hz's and the emg BT pre in that (original I believe) you might be able to rig something by replacing a knob or drilling a hole (major no no). If your running std emg's then no.

I have the EMG HZ pickups and I guess the pre is original. Best regards/Daniel.

Welcome to the bright-side of the force... LOL.

Neck dive on a Euro Neck-Thru? Not something I've ever experienced in a SPECTOR Neck-Thru... It's typically the older Euro Bolt-ons and sad to say, recently the USA Bolt-Ons (5-string).

Although I consult with SPECTOR and consider Stuart and PJ very close friends... I try to be objective and fair... and I have a new bolt-on USA NS-5H2-EX here scheduled to go to NAMM with the worst neck-dive I've ever seen. Just being honest. I'd hate to tell someone "no this or that doesn't neck dive" and them find out it does. I can only help people if they feel I'm being objective and honest.

Try a wider non-slip strap... I'm looking forward to seeing the new SPECTOR Neoprene strap at NAMM. I haven't seen one yet.

Also, the shaft size for the Schallers and the Ultralight Hipshots and the anchor bolt pattern are what you need to look at. Some older Schallers have an anchor bolt at 90 degrees from the tuner key while others are in line with the tuner key. So make sure you know where any replacement tuner anchors so you don't have to drill new holes for that.

Widening the shaft isn't a big-big deal, but you have to be really careful because you can damage the headstock's finish.

The Gotoh tuners that go on the USA models have a fatter shaft than the Euro Schallers and so you can't install them as a replacement unless you tap the tuning peg holes larger.

I'd see what a wider, non-slip strap would do first.

Yesterday I received my GK MB200 head and GK 210MBE cabinet. The head is 2lbs and the the 2X10 cab is 30lbs
