Hey guys, just got home from work and got the chance to check my bass out. Everything seems fine except that the action is a little low (at least my saddles are angled this time). Does anyone have any tips for adjusting the action for a 1st timer? I've never done so before, but I really don't want to have to take my bass back as the tech won't be in until monday again. I know I have the locking bridge as there is a slot for an allen key on the bottom, but how do I know if it's locked? I don't want to detune my bass to re-adjust the action and lose the intonation as well.

What's cool and why this post fits here... is that yes, I had two of his basses in the foreground with him chillin' in the mid-ground area in my nice Herman Miller office chair... and in the background against the wall... Seventhframe's new Euro4LX-TW-35 (before he bought it from me) sits with just the right amount of light on those inlays to make it shine bright. Next to it sits my Alex Webster Signature.

Go figure... photos of one of the top pop/jazz bassists with an Alex Webster bass in the frame. Who knew?





Patrick you have to start showing some love for the peons of this world not just pros. For example the ones that do construction, work in fish houses, stock shelves at shaws, disabled, own small businesses, retired from the military, operate backhoes 40+ hours a week. And find time and money to play and purchase these Spector basses. The HARD earned money from the peons keep those Professionals doing what they do without breaking a sweat.

I can't imagine buying a Euro new these days unless A) you're an endorsing artist or B) you're looking to custom order.

I paid $2K new for my Euro 5LX and I walked into rehearsal one day and my keyboardist shows me the exact same bass and he got it for $800 on Ebay. Wasn't thrilled about that. My fault for not knowing better. At least I got my 6LX for half of what they go for.

EDIT: I just went to see which Euro 5 BassCentral had for $1659. Of course it's the exact bass I have! Was the black cherry fairly unpopular or something?

Another worry I have is that I've never drilled through any kind of lacquer finish. Is there any special thing I should do to prepare, or is it just a matter of drilling the hole? The switches I have require a 1/4" hole and like 5/8" body clearance, which is no big deal...but I want to run 18v and I'll probably have to stuff everything in there to make it work.

Speaking of which, do I just run the battery wires in series to get 18v for both the pups and preamp?

I need some info on another Spector I found...they have limited info on it, and I can;t find much myself.

It's a 4 string, neck through, has the SSD logo, says SSD on the truss rod cover, dot inlays, EMG PJ's. It looks to be in decent shape, $699. It's the used one on GC's site in Wilmington, DE. I can pass through tonight on my way home if it's worth it...

What model is it? What preamp usually came with these? What woods? Is $699 a fair price?

A special note about serial numbers and this model:

The first units did not have a serial number
Serial numbers were first placed inside the control cavity
Later units the serial numbers were put on the back of the headstock as is common with current Czech Republic models


I'm not sure on the preamp tho...

Seems like a good price, that is basically a Euro
