Rick I want your bass but with a P/J setup .... And I mean wicked bad!!

I know I've posted pics of mine before but this is the one I got for $1649. And I got a free case thrown in also. Could I have gotten one cheaper used? Sure. But I didn't want a used one this time.

I need some info on another Spector I found...they have limited info on it, and I can;t find much myself.

It's a 4 string, neck through, has the SSD logo, says SSD on the truss rod cover, dot inlays, EMG PJ's. It looks to be in decent shape, $699. It's the used one on GC's site in Wilmington, DE. I can pass through tonight on my way home if it's worth it...

What model is it? What preamp usually came with these? What woods? Is $699 a fair price?

It's an SSD NS-4CR. Definitely worth the money. I believe they came with the EMG pre or a very rare Czech version of the Hazlab pre.
The usually sell used for $800 and up...

I can't imagine buying a Euro new these days unless A) you're an endorsing artist or B) you're looking to custom order.

I paid $2K new for my Euro 5LX and I walked into rehearsal one day and my keyboardist shows me the exact same bass and he got it for $800 on Ebay. Wasn't thrilled about that. My fault for not knowing better. At least I got my 6LX for half of what they go for.

EDIT: I just went to see which Euro 5 BassCentral had for $1659. Of course it's the exact bass I have! Was the black cherry fairly unpopular or something?

In the long run, If you luv it, it doesn't matter what you paid for it.

Any idea what the wings are made out of? Please tell me these are solid maple...

About drilling finished wood in general:
1) Use a sharp drill bit.
2) Put a piece of painter's (low-tack) tape on the area you are to drill, i.e. the finished side.
3) Drill through the tape with light, steady pressure. Do not rush! Let the drill do the work. As you feel the drill starting to break through on the other side, lighten up the pressure even more. Otherwise, there will be a splintered mess.
4) Remove the tape and any wood burrs.

Battery wiring, yes in series to double the voltage of 2 - 9 volts batteries to 18 volts.

Another worry I have is that I've never drilled through any kind of lacquer finish. Is there any special thing I should do to prepare, or is it just a matter of drilling the hole? The switches I have require a 1/4" hole and like 5/8" body clearance, which is no big deal...but I want to run 18v and I'll probably have to stuff everything in there to make it work.

Speaking of which, do I just run the battery wires in series to get 18v for both the pups and preamp?

Hey thanks Paul! I'm going to start tonight.... Hopefully most of everything will drop in, I may have to sand the pickups down a bit though. Pics forthcoming tonight hopefully.....

Solid maple is correct. These are really outstanding basses. Probably has the EMG BT preamp if its all original. Solid brass bridge, not alloy. IMHO better than todays LX.

Mmmm. I think I may need to go and check it out. It looks to be a brass nut in the pic, but it's hard to tell.

I do wish it had the tomahawk inlays though...

Exactly like mine. I think I paid just a little bit more new. Got a great deal and free shipping though. I put some flats Lima suggested and love it! I keep rounds on my NS-2 but seriously, the Euro sounds totally great. I cant say enough good about it.

Grats on a fine bass if it sounds like mine! I even have the same color!

Seems to me he has. With the "My Spector" stories on the Spector website. Lots of "regular guys" there, not just pros.

I'm not a pro musician.

And absolutely... the My Spector Story videos allow average non-pro musicians to share their stories in the same light as people like Doug Wimbish and Abe Millett...

I thought the story I shared was funny because here's a magazine cover and story that I was able to slip a couple of Spectors in the shot. That's all.

True, but I didn't even have it a few months when I realized I could have gotten it so much cheaper. Just stings a bit. I know won't regret shelling out for a new USA Spector when that eventually happens.

I think you might have caught Jeff before his coffee..... Great guy, we just have some hard bark being from up north you have to get used to.

JP actually does a lot, certainly more than anyone else or any mfr. for us no name Spector junkies. Cudo's on the audio clips, the Spector stories (I want to do one actually) and everything else in helping spread the word. You rock brother!
