He could go with a 3-way switch instead. That does limit blending options though.

Are you talking about the Tonepump or all Spector pre's? The 9v and 18v USA circuit's both have a pickup balance knob if I am not mistaken so I am curious if these suffer from the low output you mention as well.

Audio taper pots tend to do that, go from almost nothing to max volume. Linear taper pots are more gradual in their volume increase/decrease.
There's nothing wrong with blend pots. I think they're fine and I don't really notice any significant drop in volume.

My good friend Ethan Farmer is an amazing bassist. He's worked with Janet Jackson, Patti LaBelle, The New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys, Christina Aguilera and a host of other notable musicians. He's an "A-List" bassist and a sincerely cool dude and great guy.
He doesn't have a bass endorsement because he really likes the freedom to play what he wants... which for the last 10 years has been his all-original 1962 Fender Jazz Bass. Road-worn but super sweet... it's his main axe.
Spectors are not really his thing, although he's really interested in trying a Coda, I just haven't had the opportunity to introduce him to PJ Rubal. And besides, he's a friend so I don't do the whole product push thing. Anyone who knows me knows I love the Spector NS-Bass... so I don't force it on people.
Last month we did a shoot together at my office/studio for his upcoming album release. These photos got used for a Bass Musician Magazine cover story about Ethan.
The cover and the photos inside were shot by yours truly. What's cool and why this post fits here... is that yes, I had two of his basses in the foreground with him chillin' in the mid-ground area in my nice Herman Miller office chair... and in the background against the wall... Seventhframe's new Euro4LX-TW-35 (before he bought it from me) sits with just the right amount of light on those inlays to make it shine bright. Next to it sits my Alex Webster Signature.
Go figure... photos of one of the top pop/jazz bassists with an Alex Webster bass in the frame. Who knew?

Well after tonight, my NS2A with the SD pups (active with dip switch) and mighty mite mm114 has become my main bass for my band. We have decided to down tune and those pups love the low grit. They handle it better than the EMG J pups in the JAR. I'm thinking about putting the mm114 in the JAR now, but I might just keep the EMG BT pre for some other gigs. guess I need to start saving for another Spector

ya now that you say that, you are right! I'm just going to leave it... That bass is too awesome to mess with.
I always thought a tonepump would sound great in that bass. If you can get your hands on a used one it may be worth the try.

We pay off the car with our tax return so it should be easier to save I am seriously considering getting a neck-thru Spector 5 string. How much would would a European be compared to a Forte?

TonePumps and EMG Circuits in the EURO in my case with EMG Pickups. I dont know about the USA Circuits. All blends pots I have ever used especially in my Spector's have been removed for Vol/Vol and sounded much better. Its worse with PJ setup than the HBs. Of course this is personal preference but try a pan and try 2 volumes and decide. Overall output of neck and bridge volume full on will be louder with 2 volumes than pan center indent (both pups full 100%). Pan drops the vol a little.
JPS Might be able to shed a little light on this.... ??

If you are shopping used go Euro if you are shopping new, you might as well go Forte... There are some 5 string Euros in the classifieds I think
