After all that..... My Spectors have been used for everything from children's albums, to country (awesome for country actually), to classic rock and top 40 , to rock and death metal. They suit everything well usually with just a twist of the treble knob , and /or a turn of the blend knob. They go from mellow to aggro and everything inbetwen.

Having said that, and considering myself more of a metal player, there really is no better of a sonic hammer than a Spector at full growl. The beauty of the beast is that it can and does all things equally well. Which is why I play Spector basses. Reguardless of the music, I have never gotten anything other than compliments on my basses.

Were in negotiations with a label currently on recording a single to market, and my green dougie will be all over it as well :)

+1 to all of this^! I play primarily CCM Contempoary Christian Music, also a bit heavier Christian Rock. The Spector bass is so versatile. I love playing me some funk with the snarling growl!

Congratulations on the label Grendle!!! :hyper: I'm excited to see your Dougie on the cover! :bassist:

Just have to say: yesterday was the first day of practice with the Euro 5LX, along with a new band. What a great sounded bass in a band context. It cut through, and I was able to coax a few different tones from it as Rick Blanc mentioned earlier simply by changing where I plucked and also what part of my finger it plucked with. And for the sake of the discussion, we play 70's classic rock and hard rock, and the Spector sounds just fine.

As for the videos of the Rex only being shown with metal players.....it's a REX! Of Pantera's Rex Brown, who designed it! It's a heavy bass, and the body shape alone doesn't really appeal to anyone outside of metal. That's probably why Nikki Sixx's Spector wasn't reproduced all to much back in the day, and probably why the X isn't a huge seller now-and I like the X, by the way. I've seen plenty of videos of NS's being played by bassists in all sorts of genres...the Rex, to me, IS a metal bass.

Am I too late for the club?

I acquired this in a deal the previous year - one of the limited edition NS2J-ARs, in the natural gloss finish.

Overall, a very nice and refined bass - and twin active EMGs make it stand out from the other Spectors.

Not enough in it to keep it mind, and I've put it up for sale/trade on the Basschat.co.uk forum. The neck is a little hard to handle for the live work I'm doing at the moment - which is a shame, as everything else is nailed on. It's got some growl, and is built superbly.

2.) Patrick, I don't think its that Spector is marketing towards metal bassist, or even that the website is skewed that way. I think it is that more and more popular hard rock/metal bassists use Spector and it is a lot more visible than say some one like Abe Millet that is using a bass that looks like a fender. It just doesn't stick out like the NS basses.

3.) I don't think Clearwave thinks Alex or his bass are a joke. It is simply a very custom looking bass. Its kind of like someone who isn't a KISS fan (they exist right?) might laugh that those guys dress up, wear makeup and platform shoes. I don't take Clearwaves comments as negative really. Just the POV of someone maybe not into a bass with graphics.

4.) Clearwave, Nikki's reggae and slap sections where enough to showcase the bass, I think. I wasn't blown away, but the video was just to show the range of tones, not Nikki's playing. Plus remember that bass is strung BEAD, so its not going to have the same killer slap that standard tuning would


had a killer gig last night. The CR4FM performed amazing. This thing slays my NS2A, I might have to get another one!!!

I was going to ask you how things went. Glad to hear you had a good time. I wasn't there, but I think you performed amazingly. The bass just went along for the ride.;)

The Spector and metal thing can be a pain from the marketing perspective. Metal players do buy hi end gear though as well, so just don't forget us ;) . But I understand where you comming from.

Instead of trying to bury it , Imo. It would be cool to embrace it and maybe put players together that wouldn't normally go together. I would love to see Alex and Doug or Robbie and someone else from the opposite end of the spectrum doing a duet kind of thing. Maybe not a duet, but maybe having two very different artists doing the tone demo thing together for the same model. No one's done much of that before I think because they try and keep the stigmas associated with the styles seperate.

That's one of the things about spector , reguardless of the music there's a deep love of the basses themselves and brand as a whole shared by all.

That is, just flat out, brilliant. Spector should embrace this idea and make you a bass as a way of saying thanks.

I think we feel the same way about this bass. The neck is a little "clubbish". Does Stuart Spector have giant hands? I am going to have mine shaved down a little. Refined is just the right word to describe the sound and I have installed a Tonepump pre amp. Not to take the refinement away, but to give it some needed growl and booty. Still wrestling with a color for a refin. Before I get bashed. Yes, I am aware that only 83 of these were made. After its all done there will be only one.:D

I would say as long as you keep it with a transparent finish, it will be amazing, your particuar bass has some serious would grain

Now I might be wrong about what is metal, hard rock, pop, rock etc. but when I open a Bass Player mag and I see Leland Sklar holding a Warwick, I think "must be a good all around bass".

Doug Wimbish-Known for the band Living Colour, they are considered a metal band. Especially if you remember when they first came out. I know Doug does much more than that, but that what he is known for. Every youtube video on him is Doug playing a jimi hendrix style solo. Of course he does much more than that but I'm talking perception.

Nickelback guy- Hard rock band.

Springsteen guy- Ok...thats a rock band.

Somebody needs to bust stings bass out of the museum and give it back to him, that would help. More black and/or country artists would help too.

Kudos on the Female spector artist feature...this ain't no boys club. As a father of two little girls, I hope I'm looking for one of those pink ns2's someday.

I understand where clear wave is coming from...3 years ago when I first started playing Spector basses, it did look like most of the advertising back then was geared toward Metal artist. But since then, JPS has been doing an awesome work at introducing other Genre' Spector artist into the Spectorcentral website, IMO. This I like because I've never been a Metal or even hard rock listening/fan. If they're screaming...I'm not interested! But, that's not to say they don't have musical talents because they do have. Also on our club thread there appears to be a whole lot of Metal fans. That's okay too. I'm happy to see other genre' fans finally coming out of the woodwork on here too. I was beginning to think that I was the odd bassist out! Haha! :hiding:
I'm with ya Clearwave and anyone else that's not a Metal fan.
But I do respect the artist's talents even if I don't care for their Genre'. :cool:

JPS...keep up the awesome changes that you've been bringing into Spector advertising! I've been enjoying them.:bassist:
