Man the Plum is looking classy and gorgeous!Finally got the new bridge for my plum CRFM4 & installed it, and it is a definite visual improvement over the nasty old corroded one that was on there. See before & after pix.
Next - someone here stated that I would shelve my 2 Euros once I heard my new NS4. Though I have no plans to bag the Euros, I do have to say that after hearing the NS4 last night at band practice through my PJB rig for the first time, it really does sound better than any bass I've ever owned or played. While it is not quite as aggressive-sounding as the plum Euro, the plum remains my favorite playing bass, with the best feeling neck of the three, but the sound of the NS4 is simply incredible!
A bit of the difference between the Euros & the USA is lost when the band gets to cranking, but we also did some digital multitrack recording last night, and that's where the NS4 was a true champ. The bass was recorded using a line out from the PJB M500 straight to the recorder, and the resulting sound was spectacular - sparkling highs, complex mids, and chest thumping/bowel loosening lows.
I am truely impressed and awed by my NS4.
I was the one that said that to ya about the USA's. I've heard the soaps that come on the NS-4 doesn't get really loud. I'd say if you changed the pups to either DC's or 35 P/J's you'd hear a remarkable different cutting thru the mix when the band cranks it. I know my 40P/J's have no problem dominating thru the mix. Especially after discovering power slinkies!!!

Thanks! I kind of went "obsesso" with the knobs on Whitey. I started with a set of gold knobs with real mother-of-pearl tops from Q-Parts, and then I embellished them by affixing a set of 4 small rubies as knob pointers. I got the idea from the jeweled knobs that Gretsch uses on their White Falcon models.
Man those are Saweet!!!! That has me thinking....

Cleaned up the NS-2 today and put some new Hi Beams on it. PJ confirmed it was made in the Brooklyn workshop and left on 06/15/85. What a great sounding instrument!

Don't know who told you that but they were completely wrong. Plus, you are suggesting he change to DC's which is what is in the NS-4 already and I have never heard of an NS-4 having issues cutting through the mix.
He mentioned that it's not as aggressive sounding as the Plum Euro and that is most likely due to the tonepump inside it. If it's a non trim tonepump, that will definitely explain it since I have the same issue with my Rebop 5 but if it has a trim pot, try setting it to 30% and see if the output levels are closer.
When I first got it, I was a bit concerned about the apparent lack of volume, bottom end, & balls in general.
I played it for about ten minutes before changing the factory strings to D'Addario stainless steels, lowering the action & raising the pickups - what a difference! It bites, it snarls, it thunders - it growls like an animal now!
Those soapbars are absolutely vicious when set to the proper height & slammed with stainless steel rounds...
The plum has the older EMG pre, which I actually prefer over the non-trim TonePump in my white Euro.
As for the sound of the NS4, your assessment is spot-on, & see my comments in the above post for my latest thoughts on the subject.

That bass tone is the only reason I liked that Skid Row album. You're exactly right, it's what a bass should sound like.
Just checked the UPS tracking number for the millionth time today and it finally updated. My Rebop 5 left Illinois today and is slated to be delivered tomorrow. I'm not going to sleep tonight and I'll be thinking about it all day tomorrow at work. I've already thought about calling in sic(k).
Anyone know what type of material the nut is made from? Please don't tell me it's a crappy hollow plastic one like I find on so many basses nowadays. Of all the parts on a bass to go cheap on, why cheap out on that?
