People have been saying that about the Trim model. My problem is that I LOVE very aggressive bass tones, so I tend to crank any pre on a bass (while leaving my amp's controls more or less flat). I think even with the Trim I'd still crank the bass and treble and would have trouble cutting through with that mid scoop.

Having used the Non Trim Tonepump for a while. If you boost everything the output will be really way too Hot for most situations. With the Trim version. you are adjusting the overall output level down but you can still crank the Bass and Treble.
Wire it at 18Volts put the trim at 50% and you are getting very close to a Spector 9V Circuit (Haz) Tone.

You cant go wrong. with the either the Trim Tonepump or BQC.

I will try to do that as soon as I can. I've been limbo with my home recording setup for a little while but I've settled in to using both a Sansamp RBI and Sansamp RPM so one of those should represent it well.

SWEET! I use ProTools/Logic Pro to do my home stuff. My issue is that I don't have a very good recording pre (avalon U5 as an example) and it always comes across sounding thin in the mix.

Hopefully now that I am a bit more settled into my new place, I can get back to setting up my little home studio again!

You may want to change that, I found it noisy and somewhat brittle. Hard to beat a TP.

I posted this before but can't seem to find it because of how fast these threads go... lol.

Anyways, my TonePump pre in my Euro 4 is having a hard time sitting in my band's mix, so I think I need to add something with a 3-band EQ. The EMG BQC is my first choice as it's widely available and cheap, but I'm wondering if there is something better out there. Regardless, I really think I need a 3-band pre. Any suggestions? If it matters, I like the snarly-ness of my TonePump, I just don't care for how it sits. If I can find something similar in aggressiveness and tone I'd be happy.

Trust me, I am the same way. I have found that on my Rex with trim TP and PJs... I need to roll back my bass knob a little bit, I also roll back my bridge pup (per suggestions of the spector gurus). Once I got over my need to "have it all on 11" I was able to really dial it in and still sound aggressive. Otherwise the BQC... which I want to try, but I think I'm going to get a HAZ for my Rex after I buy another bass..... hopefully in a couple months

I have Sonar for my host software and an RME Multiface II for my interface and I've had good results with signal path quality. I like that the Sansamp has the separate direct output so I can record both the modeled tone and the direct tone.

My keyboardist/producer ran my direct tracks through an older Sansamp PSA for our record and the results are pretty good. I hope to have decent clips of this soon.

I agree! I am a HUGE OBP fan, and I find that the OBP1 to be exactly as Gabriel described!

...however, the OBP2 and OBP3 are FANTASTIC sounding pre's that are not noisy or brittle (unless you absolutely crank the treble) and are my go to in any bass!

If anyone is/was interested in the Euro5 listed on GC (NB 1137) it's made in 2002 so it should be OPB-1 circuit.

I'm the exact same way and know what you're talking about. It wasn't until I started using EMGs gear in Spectors that I realized that I couldn't crank everything because I'd get too much input clipping. Plus I am intentionally going after the mid scoop for my preferred tone, and the BQC allows you to do that... and then go in the completely opposite direction! I really think it will be the solution you are looking for. Like John said - it's an almost endless selection of on board mid range settings to choose from. Plus the added bonus of being affordable, almost completely solderless to install (and dead simple), absolutely pin-drop quiet, and the ability to go from 9v to 18v very, very easily if you want to (but I don't think you'll need to). If you want help getting a hold of one, PM me and I can point you towards some decent deals.

If you go with the BQC Control, you can keep the TW pickups in your Euro. The BQC Control just gives you the bass/treble pots and also the mid/sweep pots so you would use your existing volume pots. That is what I will be doing for my NS-JH5 but the installation is not as easy as the full BQC system since more soldering would be required. If you go with the whole BQC system, you get all of the EMG quick connections that make the installation so much easier and the only soldering you would need to do would be to the output jack.

I mean, if you don't put the TW pickups in single coil mode, another option would be to just use the BQC system and keep the TW's in dual coil mode at all times but I doubt you would want that. I happen to love the DC's so I put them in my Euro 5LX and sold the TW's but it's all personal preference.

What type of problems do you have with it?

The first problem I had was, all types of loud white noise, I fixed that by installing a USB 3.0 card (common problem).
I find the software not very intuitive and hard to use. I'm using the same software as you but find it overly complex for the simple task of blending and recording.

So just to get this straight in my head: If I go with just the BQC control I could keep the TW pups and the ability to switch between single or dual coil modes? But that is a more difficult install than the whole BQC system?

If I go with the BQC System I gain the Volume/Blend and a simpler install but lose the Volume/Volume and the single coil option.

Is that about right?
