SPECTOR® Club - Part 40

So I got the Faux Forte 4 back today. Fresh setup with Sadowsky steels and my new favorite (yes, even more than the smadder setup) the EMG BQC wired for 9v.

Every bit as wonderful as the Faux Forte 5 but has an even better top in terms of figuring. Great flame on this one. And boy do I love me the PJ set up. I haven't had anything Spector wise except the JAR (jazz pickups) and 5's of one kind or another, both with DC soapbars. the PJ combination is absolutely awesome with the BQC preamp. I can hit any tone I want, one of my favorites being the one that so closely emulates the 9v USA circuit so well. I'm not an audiophile, so I'm sure it may not sound as close to those who are, but I can tell you that I listen to this through my computer and then listen to Sam's Forte 4 with the 9v and I cannot tell the difference. And then I can do all kinds of other stuff. This is such a fantastic preamp inside a fantastic bass.

And I was worried on this one too because once again, Amazon shipped it in the trapezoidal factory box. that's it. No external box or packing materials at all. And amazingly, nothing was damaged, scratched dinged or otherwise provide evidence of one dumbass packing job. But as I've said before, that's the risk you run from buying from a big box store. And since this is a $1898 bass that I only did $800 worth of work for, I am not complaining.

I have. They felt & played great but were a little bright for my taste. But this was coming from using really old roto's before. I was also in the middle of changing over to a new cab & amp. (note to self-never change strings, amp & cabs at same time and expect to have anything close to "your" sound) :D

I still have the my circle k's and will string up my Legend 5 with them when I get a new B string. I don't think they make flats.

I had one as well, way back in 1999-2000. Mine was the original blue rack mount. I don't blame you for preferring it over the rest. That's the loudest 575 watts I've ever heard in my life. I wish I hadn't sold it off. I also wish they had caught on more here in the states so that they hadn't gone the Chinese manufacturing route. The quality took a huge nose dive after that happened. If I were you, I'd never let that thing out of your sight! It's an incredible amplifier and still has one of the most ingenious EQ approaches that I've ever seen or experienced. I ran mine through a Bag End Q10BX-D and while it was the heaviest 4x10 rig on the planet (the cab alone was 93 pounds), it also was as smooth as butter at stage volume with no break-up and no strain. It was surreal. I'd hit an open note and feel the air pushing me forward from behind. Most of the sound checks would go something like this:

"Can you turn that down?"

"What?"

"Can you please turn that down?"

"What? I can't hear you."

"Would you turn down? You're bleeding into everything!"

"What?"

Lol...Pretty funny! :D heaviest 410 cab in the world? Nah...my PR-410HLF has it beat by 35 more lbs. at 128#!

He's in a bar/club band with a 140ish song library but they also do original stuff, have recently finished their EP and are getting ready to shoot a video later this month for the first single. And guess who they just fired? Yep. the bass player. And guess who he called first? Me.

Timing and karma can be some supremely cool sh!t sometimes, you know?

So he'll email me an audition list, I emailed him the EP of the last band I was in, and we'll see what happens.

Oh and I also just finished sending a similar "announcement" email out to everyone who contributed to Chris via PayPal so I could make sure I hit people who weren't on TB or FB. So I apologize if some of you are getting it for the second or third time.

So, the BQC is your new favorite? Must be nice! I'm going to be putting a US 9v in my CRFM and perhaps giving the BQC a try in the Euro LX I got from you. With the EMG P/J-Xs aleady on the LX, do you think the BQC would be good with these? I know you said you haven't tried it, but based on your knowledge, do you think these would be good/better/worse than the standard EMGs?

For this situation I have a Black Cherry Euro LX. I just want to get the top, sticky layer off, but I don't want to damage it. Has anyone done this before?

Hey Tony. I think the BQC would sound great with the X series, but definitely don't go for 18v wiring. It's too hot for those pickups. I think you;'ll find that you can manipulate the broader frequency range and extra power built into the X series preamps a lot more accurately on board with the BQC. Don't get me wrong: I still love the smadder set up of the BTC system and the EXB circuit, but the secret to getting the USA 9v tone without dropping $350 + s/h is in the BQC and what you can boost or cut with that sweep knob.

And don't forget that I can help you grab a BQC at a good discount, so talk to me before you go out and buy anything.

I'm sure I speak for everyone that this picture is worth a million bucks! These days there is so much negativity from politics on down, it is great to see the power of people coming together to help others. We need a lot more of this and lot less of all the other noise!

To Smadder, JeffPlaysBass, JPS, LimaGuy and all of you that pulled this whole thing together, thanks for not only such a grand effort but allowing so many of us to be a part of it as well.
