All the great pics, messages, and videos have had me choked up all day. I can't remember a time when I felt so good; it's so great to give, and show someone how important they are!

After watching the Chris video on Spector Central (and admittedly tearing up for sure), I was checking out some of the other stuff. In the Owner video section, there is a guy playing "It's Love" by King's X on an 8 string Spector. Anyone know the story on that bass? Custom build? Modded a stock model? I'm very curious as the thought of an 8 or 12 Spector has always really intrigued me.

One more question while I'm at it. As I look at string sets for my C standard tuned 435, I recall some folks having issues with non tapered heavy strings. Is it 120's, 125's, 130's? I was really interested in sticking with Blue Steels, but I didn't know at which gauge I'd run into trouble and have to switch to something tapered like D'Addario or Ken Smith.

If it's the one that's on you tube it's a NS2A modified to be a 8 string. I believe I thought he wrote in the comments he went back only 4 strings as he felt 8 was a bit too much tension on the neck. It sounded awesome though.

yup modded NS2A with passive SeymourDuncan Basslines, wired together, one volume knob, one tone knob. (the other knob is just there to fill a hole) No onboard preamp. The signal then goes to a Tech21 Sansamp Programmable Bass DI, then a behringer mixer, into the pc. killer tone for sure.

Well, I've tried a lot of options so I can say you'll run into trouble with any gage if strings are not tapered. The E and B slots are terribly narrow. I even tried Dunlop 120s and they didn't fit my 435. The only not-tapered strings I managed to squeez in were DR DDT's but their ends' thickness varies from set to set so it's a lottery...So I ended up with tapered Rotosound Dark Zone (135). Probably not the best sound I'd like to dial but fit the bridge perfectly and last quite a while. And they are very mid-growly if you like it.

I had that problem on a bass I had and I just compressed the wrap which made it look slightly egg shaped if you looked closely at it but unnoticeable in the bass and it was never a problem after that.
