I did not know about that. My girl's sister lives just west of Springfield - I'll have to ask if it's still there.

Strippers work, but I find that they leave a residue that if not totally removed will come back over time...

I'm lived in Chatham and Peoria and still have friends in both of those areas. They went to the capital and sent me a pic of the actual pole...it was AWESOME!!!

Where I have not actually made any deals with Jaymi, I have had the pleasure of going to his house and seeing his ever revolving collection of basses! In my visits and discussions with Jaymi, I have never felt like he was misleading or trying to take advantage of anyone.

Honestly, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Jaymi. He has always been honest with me and I value his opinions/input when it comes to any potential buys that I am considering!!

I have no dog in this fight (nice way of saying I should be minding my own business) but if someone is out out there intentionally misrepresenting an item or trying to pass off damaged goods at an unreasonable value, it should be called out. but I've never seen jaymi or Steve try to do that here. are we missing something? having a lot of transactions doesn't = opportunistic predator to me. this is with all due respect to jps, who I've always thought brings a ton of value and info to the discussions.

Really they are the same quality as an NS-2A. Just not neck thru, no curved body and passive pups... I'd put them more in a place their own.

Legends are nicer by far. Just because they're curved, have modern electronics. Better pickups.

This is what a buddy of mine suggested when I was refinishing my old Peavey Fury. ...oddly enough, he also worked in a cabinet shop!

Hmmm, think they know something? I've used the heat guns when refinishing furniture and the paint peels off really quickly.

I watched a buddy refinish an older fender. He worked in a cabinet shop at the time and he was in the finish dept. The best thing that worked to start with to get that thick gloss finish and paint at the same time was using one of those paint peeling heat guns. Making sure that you constantly move it over one small area at a time, if you don't keep moving the heat gun it'll scorch the wood, it lifts the finish/paint from the wood and use a putty knife/scraper to slowly lift the heated paint/finish. Doesn't take long, shorter time than striping gel or sanding. Once the paint/finish is removed there will be some light sanding to be done.

I do have a heat gun but a little worried of scorching the wood underneath.

Sanding sounds fine to me. I would be really sketchy about using a chemical stripper or heat gun anyway.

I agree whole heartedly that if someone is misrepresenting the item and there by screwing the customer, then by all means call them out!!

I was just saying that I have never gotten that impression from either Jaymi or Smadder! When Steve was selling his Forte with the Haz, I was interested in it and during our conversation I actually suggested him list it a bit more and then negotiate to a fair deal...He refused saying that he wasn't out to make money or rip anyone off! That seemed like a pretty stand up thing to do!

I also respect and like everyone in the family and am by no means trying to upset anyone...just voicing my opinion since this all kind of started with the craigslist ad that I posted.

I've done the heat gun on a poly finish before. On some finishes it probably works great, on the old MIM P bass I tried to strip it sucked. the paint cracked and popped off in little pieces and no matter how careful I was I ended up scorching the crap out of the wood. Ended up giving up and 80 grit orbital sandered the rest off. Worked my way back to 320 over about 8 hours of hard labor, then threw the body into the closet and never touched it again. lol

I did not. I took a power sanded to it...it did not work out so well for me or that bass!

Got that right! What a freakin' mess!

I don't think a heat gun is needed to remove the finish on a Spector. Just doesn't seem to be that thick poly crap you find on a lot of Fenders. I stripped a Squire P bass body a while back and used the heatgun/scrapper method and it worked just fine. I'll be using that method again on an old '84 Ibanez RB850 I picked up a while back. Talk about a great underrated bass! Cheap too!

It's all good! I was pretty impulsive in my high school days and did things without thinking them thru...this was one of those times! I still have the body and neck(that I defretted) of that bass somewhere. I get a good chuckle every time I see it!!

I wouldn't dare do that to any of the Spectors that I have owned!

Come-on... as many Spectors as you've turned over the last several months? You never keep one for more than a couple of months and any time you can get one and turn it for a profit; you're all over it.

There's nothing wrong with that. But you should stop playing coy. That's what gets people offended.

You have a very distinct and predictable pattern so the "who me?" thing only insults people's intelligence.

Just keeping it real. I'm a very nice guy but don't mistake that for stupidity. And shame on you if you think you can play me.

And no. I don't endorse your used bass business. Yours or Smadders. You guys want to get basses in trade and sell them for a profit... great. But understand that if those sales go south or there's a problem with the bass you've just sold, nice comments and "hey buddy, buddy" isn't going to get me to lift a finger to help you.

And please don't pretend that because we talk or I did a video with you that I'm OK with your used bass business. I'm fine with it so long as you don't try to take advantage of the trust and fellowship that's been built on this board.

For the record I do not endorse or support what you do as a private party regarding the trading, buying or selling of basses.

So please do not associate me with your shenanigans.

If you were wondering why there's a bunch of people on this board that are wary of you; this is why.

Everyone here already sees that you're going to trade something that's worth less than what you're getting and you're going to sell or trade what you get for more than you have in it.

Horse trading, wheeling/dealing, there's a lot of things you can use to describe it. And again, there's nothing wrong with it so long as you're up front about it.

Let's stop playing the games and just be out in the open about it. That way everyone is on the same page.

You're an opportunistic predator. And hey, most really good salesmen are. But there are a lot of people here on this board that look to one another for fairness and trust. Which is why I think you're going to find fewer and fewer people here that are willing to entertain your not-so-upfront sales techniques.

Just keeping it real. I've worked really hard, as have many others... to cultivate a sense of fellowship and brotherhood on this board. And people who would take advantage of that trust for their own personal gain disgust me.

And I'm not going to just keep quiet about it.

This guy is my General I will follow him to battle!!! I have gained a big deal of respect for Mr. Patrick!!!...No Games!!
