I always thought Warwicks were butt ugly since well before I knew of the history behind what happened with the NS-2 shape. Ironically that was the only Warwick I didn't hate the look of, at least shape-wise. Not too mention they almost all look like coffee tables. Somehow the natural finish basses Spector makes seem to avoid this problem.

As far as tone goes, I don't think I've heard a song and thought "ooh that guy is using a Warwick", but I definitely notice if it's a Spector being used.

So I never felt like I was missing much - no offense to those who like them.

Having been a Warwick Thumb player for many years before picking up my first Spector a year ago, I can say they have a recognizable tone. Listen to Mudvayne, that's the tone right there.

Having played Spectors for just shy of a year now, I can say there is no looking back. I still have fond memories of the Thumbs, but I'm glad I rolled the dice on a new Rebop that day while on nyquill with a 103.5 fever (true story). My fever induced GAS attack changed my bass life forever. :bassist:

Really? I'm a little surprised you don't like the band. As for the the bass player, he's really good and plays with some unique techniques.

As for the tone, it didn't take me very long to replace the Thumb 4 and 5 once I played that Rebop. Then it didn't take long to keep adding to the family. LOL. SAS is for real. But I know I don't need to tell you that. ;)

It's the vocals really for them. I heard them and Slipknot at the same time and both did very little for me. I'd say I'm getting picky about metal in my older age, but I've kind of been like that since my early 20's. I'd probably be listening to BTBAM a lot if I could get past the vocals....but I can't.

I couldn't have imagined I'd grow the Spector herd so fast. I certainly couldn't have done it if I was buying all new. I used to be dead set against buying a used instrument, but TB has made it a lot easier to do. In fact out of the 7 Spectors I had as of last night (6 now), only two of them were bought new, and one of those is now on its way to NOLA. But the Webster I got from Patrick and the 6LX-EX I got from TB user Vakmere might as well have been new. My NS-5XL was missing some truss cover screws when I got it but other than that it was in great shape, as was Cory's Euro 435 which will hopefully be back in his hands soon.

I do actually have another used Euro on its way to me, and I may have a new one coming pretty soon. I'll post these of course when things happen. Neither were expected, but of course when are they ever? :)

As Bond says, brunette or redhead doesn't matter as long the cuffs and collar match:smug:

As for the Warwick desires, that's cool. My tool box is full of all kinds of tools and having the right tool for the right job can make all the difference in the world. The new Rockbass line is worlds better than it used to be and truly is on par with a lot of upper end basses. Better than a Rebop? I don't know, never owned one but the last Corvette Rockbass I picked up played as good and sounded better than my Euro 4LX (but then again so does my Rex5 Pro). My Euro is a keeper but its no secret that I'm looking for the right preamp implant to make this bass all that it should be. I've never had that concern with my Warwick Thumb or my other Spectors, so depending on your point of reference a Rockbass may or may not be better and it might just be the perfect tool for a given job.
Disclosure:
I like basses, lots of basses, all kinds of basses especially ones that don't all sound the same or look the same. My profile kind of says it all. My current Spector line up includes a JJ layout, a PJ layout and a $$ layout - I'm still searching for the right Spectorcore with a Humbucker/Piezo layout and am drooling over the new Spector MM layout. Variety is the spice of life.

I've owned a thumb and seen Mudvayne several times. I personally like my Rebop with the mods much better than the Thumb and I agree that Ryans tone live and recorded does nothing for me. There was a 86 Streamer that was for sale in the classifieds that Chris in Baltimore refinished. If I had the money I would have bought that for sure. EMG with the MEC, super thin neck and awsome finish. The best of both worlds for sure and nice to have something different on hand. Yes that and the red custom that Jamie owns are the only 2 that I have have considered since owning my Thumb. The ability and cost of replacing electronics on a W is also someting that I considered, replacing the MEC in my thumb was a bit*h and expensive. Though if I needed a 9v at the moment I would be SOL. I had never tried the Spectors due to lack of availability till I bought the blue Kramer with the newer Spector Haz pre and it has only gotten better since. Though I am not a fan of the TP and if every Spector had a TP in it, I would never own one and I'm glad that was not the first model I bought. You can only play one bass at a time and if it gives you the tone you need for that project then it's the right bass. Brand loyality is awesome but sometimes it can be misleading.

Yeah Ryan that's it, shows how much I pay attention. I'm not much of a slap fan maybe that's why.

I sometimes want to kick myself in the a@# . I finally have come to the reality that there is not another bass guitar that I like after playing my spectors. I got to stop buying other guitars . And just deal with it . End of story.:):)

I can't remember - do we have anyone from Atlanta in here?

I just found it it's 99% confirmed we'll be doing something called the Pathfinder Metalfest in ATL sometime in mid-July. Since we'll likely drive, we will probably try to pick up a show in Tennessee or North Carolina on the same weekend. That would be my first excursion for a show outside of my immediate region since, well...forever. Should be interesting.

I think that the guy that does their finishes, Cue, is currently out of commission while he relocates his shop. I emailed him a question earlier this week and he mentioned the move. maybe that has something to do with it.

Love me some mudvayne. Ryan martini has influenced my playing in a heavy setting a lot. Him, Dan Briggs, Arif Mirabdolbaghi and Nick Scheindzolos (I have no idea how to spell his name, but YouTube search 'ohrwurm bass play through', he's a boss) are some of my favorites active in metal today.

From my last few messages with Todd, just a few weeks before NAMM, I got the impression that everything was done and just waiting to be assembled and that they were going to try and finish it with all of the NAMM basses...they ran out of time.

I just got the matte finish which I believe they do in house...but I may be mistaken.

The additional wait wouldn't be so bad, but I have a few projects that require me to have a bass and my Peavey Fury 5, which is the only bass I currently own at the moment, just took its final swan song about a month ago making me a bass player without a bass. Needless to say I'm jonesin'!! :help:
