I know for a fact that in my case this is true. If I had bought a USA NS-2 about 25 years ago, I believe I could have saved thousands of $$ and years of GAS....

Hey guys, had a question and figured this is the best place to ask. I have 3 USA NS 5 strings, this one here being my number one. Its a 2004 NS5XL Buckeye Burl, and it has three piece wings. Buckeye top/maple core/ mahogany back.
I havent seen another one like it. Is it rare? a one off?
Unrelated question: I have a Spector 18v Haz/EMG DC40 setup in it, but i love the Smadder setup in my forte.
Does anyone have any experience going from the Spector pre to the EMG pre?

That's an awesome bass! I can't recall seeing any with that specific combination of woods. I have seen a bass that had buckeye/maple/buckeye sandwich (iirc) and bass central has a spalted maple/walnut/spalted bass. It looks to me that you have a walnut back? I bet it sounds great!
Very nice looking bass, Not sure on the rareity of the Buckeye, but I have gone between the EMG BQC, BT, B64, and Spector 18v. I prefer the Spector 18v, BQC, BT, B64. The Spector 18v in my basses seems to give a more organic analog type bite. All the EMGs are much cleaner and the main difference between the EMG's are how they handle the top end. With the B64 and BT being very bright and harder to tame. The BQC is very nice and easy to dial in any tone, with the mid control a plus, but it lacks the grit that I can get from the Spector 18v. Which I need for my tone. If I was doing more versatile music I would go with the BQC, though an Aggie would get preference over the EMG.

No it wound up being minor cosmetic blemishes. It was back in 1997 - my Carvin 6 string (my main player) was knocked off the stand and tipped over face first onto the stage. Wound up with some gouges in the headstock, which sucked because it has a nice transparent red finish. I dropped some red paint in and it's not really noticeable now. It was the ****ing sound guy that did it. I actually threw both of my heavy wood Grundorf rack lids at him when I saw it happen - he left me alone the rest of the night.
I agree with coming prepared, but I will admit I have been tempting fate recently by only bringing one out. I always have pre-cut strings ready to go though. Oh, and knock on a piece of wood, Ihave never in 25 years broken a bass string at a gig. In fact the only time I ever broke a string at all was when I was 16 and playing an old Dean bass. My strings were way old, and like a dork I slapped my A string and it broke at the bridge.
of course you can have other problems with a bass other than strings breaking, but that seems the most common. When we start playing some more important shows for album support I'll be bringing two since I may need one for alternate tuning anyway.

Ha yeah been busy the past few days so I haven't had a chance to pimp anything. We have a guy doing PR stuff for us now so he's getting stuff posted on various metal sites.
BTW congrats on the new band - I like it a lot.

I swear I must be destined to have a hard time getting an MB800. You guys might remember me getting the wrong thing shipped to me when I tried ordering one from Musicians's [del]Friend[/del] Enemy, and I just made them refund me and I held off.
Well I bought Lee's mint MB800 which he promptly shipped during the week. I could see it left the VA sort facility and everything. So I now I see today some mental giant at the VA facility decided to send it on the scenic route to San Jose, CA on its way to IL. Nice. No wonder they can't stay in business.

I saw that posted on FB, congrats Bunk!
That really sucks! I just ordered a Wahoo pedal from MF and it took them a week just to ship it. I try not to use them and buy used. The pedal is fairly new to the market so I had to take advantage of the 15% deal and hope for the best.
