DR lowrider hex cores same guage will feel better and tighter.........might I suggest you try a D'addario balanced tension set?

I'm currently using Elixer Nanos on my 4LX and whatever string Spector puts on their Woodstock basses for my NS2J (assume they are Spector strings). I don't have a clue what's on my Rex5 pro but love them as well. I haven't tried many different string types on the Spectors but I did try the new EB Cobalts and hated them (very rough texture, way too much finger noise, over the top on the high end and not as ballsy or deep as low riders or even nanos). I do intend to try some La Bella clear tape wounds if I can ever get my hands on a Spectorcore bass I like.
On my other non Spector basses, my favorite string is still the Optima Golds for my Alembic and Jazz basses, DR Black Beauties for my Stingray and Warwick basses and La Bella deep talking flats or black tape wounds for my precision and acoustic basses.

As for Soilwork, I just finished listening to the 1st disc of the new double this morning. I've always really liked them, but so far this record have been very impressive. Diggin' it, big time!

Yeah I'd say this is probably the best Soilwork since Figure Number Five. I know some people didn't like that one but I like it a lot. Natural Born Chaos might be the high point for me though.

Im pretty much locked into DR brand strings,nothing else we sell nor other local shops have long enuff strings for my 35in Spector Euro5LX...
Well theyre Dunlops(but only nickel)I can try again,but die so fast for me..

I've been using Circle K's for the last several months on my Spectors.

The big plusses are the tapered ends that fit the Spector bridge no matter the gauge and the ability to get gauges at the tension you want for any tuning. Personally I think 125 is too light even for B. So for A#, I think the 136 or 142 balanced set is a great place to start for low A# standard.

If you want to stick with something you can get through regular string vendors, I'd seriously consider a 135 or 145 low string. I used to use a 145 XL for low B and it still didn't feel that tight.

I just got a call from my tech that my Spector's ready to go, set up for A with a .158 lowB, will report back after I jam it for a while..

On a not so happy note, ordered the wrong length strings for my Dingwall (also circle K) and they're not fitting. Still stoked to get one bass back, but its gonna be another two weeks for my new Circle K's to get here so I'll just have lots of Spector playing time!

I'm just thinking back to when Disturbed did the same thing. Held a ton of auditions and ultimately picked a guy who had been on a tour with them in a different band.

Just from a business perspective I don't know if MH would want to go with someone who doesn't have a proven road record. Reminds me of the dude they got in Journey - he hated the road after a few months.

Plus I would think whoever is doing their summer shows has a leg up on the job should they want it.

Go for it Bunk, I think all they want is a temp bassist for the summer and all you have to do is email them the songs listed on there site....you can go have fun!

They are basically a straight up modern metal band. Some thrash influences still in there from the band's early days. I mean don't get me wrong, they do what they do well, but I've heard their last few records a couple times and not a lot of it stuck in my head. So to me that probably means I wouldn't be into playing it.

I'd love to see a Spector player out there with them. Burn my eyes is one of my all-time favorite metal records. Every time I listen to it, it brings me right back to that fall in '94. Pantera was out a bunch around then, and it seemed like every other week there was some epic metal show at the Roseland in NYC. :bassist:

I would love to locate my old spector bass just for the fun of it and to see where it is.

I had a very early NS5 that i got from Krammer factory in Jersey in the spring or '89. Great sounding bass, but very narrow string spacing for a 5 string..
It was a Black one with two EMG J pickups..
At the truss rod route under the cover ( sold it without the cover ) there was a serial number IIRC 004 or 001 dont remember... Would love to know where that is at this time.

I bet Gene Fox has it. He owns around 10 Kramer NS-5's and since only like 80 of them were made, it's a good chance he has it :)
