I would love to locate my old spector bass just for the fun of it and to see where it is.

I had a very early NS5 that i got from Krammer factory in Jersey in the spring or '89. Great sounding bass, but very narrow string spacing for a 5 string..
It was a Black one with two EMG J pickups..
At the truss rod route under the cover ( sold it without the cover ) there was a serial number IIRC 004 or 001 dont remember... Would love to know where that is at this time.

I know it wasn't 001 as it went to Will Lee and it was Candy Apple Red.

It's perfect, but beefy. Almost couldve pushed it to a .166 I think , but the .158 is already a big step up from the .130 I was playing, I may move up a gauge with the next set I order.

man, i'm REALLY diggin' that tone. if you didnt state it was a spector, or a single MM pickup bass, i couldnt even tell. totally not what i expected from that bass.

After spending some time reading descriptions on BestBassGear, I really can't figure out what pickups I should go with.

The ones I've been eyeballing are the 35DC/X, 35P/X, 35JX, 35TWX. Decisions, decisions...

I love it! The BopMM sounds wicked! The Spector pimp was right. That instrument was a great fit for you.

Sounds great, that bass fits that style very nicely.

Thanks for the kind words man. I am basically a bedroom player though so I am not in any band but I am thinking about doing some cover videos. I'm still trying to figure out the songs I want to do and want to practice more since I am very self-conscious about my playing

I'll say it again, if you can swing the cash for Mesa's 4x12 I think you're gonna be REALLY happy with this thing.

I've been using Circle K's for the last several months on my Spectors.

The big plusses are the tapered ends that fit the Spector bridge no matter the gauge and the ability to get gauges at the tension you want for any tuning. Personally I think 125 is too light even for B. So for A#, I think the 136 or 142 balanced set is a great place to start for low A# standard.

If you want to stick with something you can get through regular string vendors, I'd seriously consider a 135 or 145 low string. I used to use a 145 XL for low B and it still didn't feel that tight.

I def think Ill be moving up in guage ASAP,with this new A# tuning move my bands taking on.
I LOVE the Circle K strings Ive tried on sum friends basses,they seem a bit pricy for my budget though.. Plus working for a big music store chain has me wishin to buy direct thru my employers vendors...
I think I know what to do,Im gonna call DR from work and talk to em about their custom sets for LOW tunings...Maybe DDadario too.
Maybe when iI find out the right guage low B for A#,at least for me,Ill know how to guage the rest..
Big John DeLuca also uses a super low tuning,Ill have to go back to Circle K for another look I suppose.

I was going for an Incognito/Brand New Heavies vibe, but Spector Porn is fine with me.

It's surprisingly warm for having an MM style pickup. I'll be posting some other stuff that has more aggressive tones and some slap/pop stuff as well.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm in the minority when I say I like the Tonepump. I think worshiprocker digs it too. I have yet to try single coil mode - but the MM pickup is passive (Hz). Makes me wonder what an active PUP would be like.

It has the same setup it came with, same strings too! Funny, I love all types of music, and playing live to pop/classic rock/metal - but when I record - I get all acid jazz-y. LOL.

I'll be putting more Rebop MM ditties up. If I had the skills of the Spector Pimp, I'd do a comparison between the MM and the DLX-FM as well as the Forte. For this particular ditty I was trying some major pentatonic and dorian scales over the minor 7. The main bassline is E minor 7, the chords vary but anchors on the root of E. The melody is an experiment in A major pentatonic as well as E dorian.

I'm currently using Elixer Nanos on my 4LX and whatever string Spector puts on their Woodstock basses for my NS2J (assume they are Spector strings). I don't have a clue what's on my Rex5 pro but love them as well. I haven't tried many different string types on the Spectors but I did try the new EB Cobalts and hated them (very rough texture, way too much finger noise, over the top on the high end and not as ballsy or deep as low riders or even nanos). I do intend to try some La Bella clear tape wounds if I can ever get my hands on a Spectorcore bass I like.
On my other non Spector basses, my favorite string is still the Optima Golds for my Alembic and Jazz basses, DR Black Beauties for my Stingray and Warwick basses and La Bella deep talking flats or black tape wounds for my precision and acoustic basses.

I should have specified. terrarium. you don't want to submerge, that's just asking for damage.

if you're looking for substrate, I recommend granite with a high proportion of pink feldspar. other varieties can be gneiss, but you really want to spend the extra money and get the good schist.

Nah! I just use snow...The really fluffy kind.

In recent years, my string choices have been Elixirs and Spector Nickels.

I tried the Cobalts and they sound awesome, but yeah, there's something about those strings - sometimes I couldn't slide or my fingers would feel like they would catch on something.

I have a few sets I'll be trying out soon - GHS Boomers, Rotosound Funkmasters, DR lowriders and some EB slinkies. The Elixir Nanos have been my main string for about 4 years now.
