I just ran it through my Zoom B3 with one of its rhythm tracks clean with no effects into my Zoom Q3HD video recorder and it sounds pretty darn good. Using DR Sunbeams 40-100

I just ran it through my Zoom B3 with one of its rhythm tracks clean with no effects into my Zoom Q3HD video recorder and it sounds pretty darn good. Using DR Sunbeams 40-100

Spoke to my local shop today (non spector dealer) as I had a buddy who worked for the only dealer in town but he's kinda flaking on me, I'm trying to order through these other guys I've been shopping through for a while.

Somebody pointed me in the direction of 'Jake' and he's the guy who always let me come in and try out the basses I had planned on buying (SR5, some Ibanez's and a nice Warwick) looks like he's gonna help me get on my way to ordering my custom Euro 5 in green with maple board/black inlays/gold hardware, I just really can't decide between the Rebop 5 or another Euro 5LX.

I feel as if it wouldn't be the smartest financial decision at this point to custom order a USA 5er though one will be on its way to me when I get the cash!

Comparing the two basses directly, in a gloss finish, should I be expecting the Rebop 5 to weigh a little less due to the bolt on design? It seems that all of the Rebop 5's I see are tons lighter then the Euro 5's (mine weighing in at 10.5) are all natural finish so I don't know if that has something to do with the low weight of the Rebop 5's.

I was really set on the Rebop 5 until I got my Euro 5 setup with these .158 gauge strings, so much that my Dingwall's gonna be out the door this week to help fund this other Spector. It played awesome and had a killer tone before the setup, but it really is the perfect bass for me now, and I'm even more so stoked to get this custom build on its way then before!

I guess I really will throw this out there, delucajohn, you don't have any plans to sell that Green NS5XL in the near future, do you? I think thats the only one that could sway me from my custom route at this point.

I made the headstock camera mount from this video..Was cheap and easy to make with wood and parts from HomeDepot. I think I spent $15 total on it. I just added some felt to the inside where it clamps down on the headstock. Fun project and it works great! (not approved for onstage use..lol)

I've got a 35DC coming in the mail thanks to a TB member. Now I just need to score a second pickup for the bass and I'll be good to go! Really considering the P4.

Can anyone here comment on how those two sound together? I'll be running them with a BQC preamp.

Both have 9-volt circuits: Aguilar OBP-2 vs TonePump. They are the only significant differences I can find. Both can be upgraded.

Neck dimensions are the same on each. The street price on each is very close.

Except for finish options why choose one over the other?

Neck dimensions are the same on each. The street price on each is very close.

Except for finish options why choose one over the other?

Almost everyone is going to tell you to go for the Forte if the prices are the same or close.

With the Forte, you basically have a US built NS-2 with no frills, just minus the US 9v circuit. Once those become available again, you can get one put in and you essentially have an NS-2. Solid maple wings vs. the sandwiched maple on the Euro.

Now, I happen to really like the sound of the TonePump in the Euro, and the Euro's have an excellent build quality as well. The Forte will edge it though on tone, but it won't be night and day difference.

Another thing to note, the US 9v has bigger pots so to make it fit in a Euro you'd have to ream out the holes, whereas it *should* just drop in on a Forte. There are guys here who are much more knowledgeable on the topic since they've done it before.

The only reason I could think of to go with the Euro over the Forte would be if you really don't like the aesthetics of the Forte (no inlays, matte black only). The Euros have some really nice finishes.

Keep in mind while these might appear to have similar pricing for new, the used market will get you a Euro much cheaper than a Forte. You could probably score a Euro in good shape for $1000 give or take a hundred or so. Most used Fortes go for at least $1600 or more depending on the preamp and condition, plus there aren't as many of them hitting the market.

The easiest solution is to order the USA 9-volt option on the Forte - no waiting for the 9-volt pre to become available by itself, and no preamp swapping needed!

Euro's neck is a bit different and is slimmer than Forte's. Personally I like the Euro's necks more. It's about the same thickness and profile as my Kramer's NS-2s and very comfy
. Another reason why you might like Euro more than Fortee is weight.. Euros are much lighter but in spite of that they still have perfect balance on strap.

BTW recently I had a chance to try another used Euro 4LX and man, it's perfect! The quality is top-notch and it plays like butter. And yes, I like Tone Pumps) I even thought at that moment that if I had a sort of blind test, i.e. if I didn't know which of these basses was USA or Czech made and the cost of them, I would probably even chose Euro! Honestly.

+1 on the Forte. You absolutely cannot go wrong with a USA Spector. I think that the Forte is really Spector's secret weapon. A very subtle NS2.
