While I love the Spec it's just absolutely too mix-cutty for my style. I do play metal and rock as my main styles but I have a more classic-rock Geezer Butler approach to playing, which include a lot of "bubbly" fills and to-the-beat legato arpeggios on the high strings that still need to thump a bit. I haven't been able to maintain a really woody, almost fretless quality with the EQ knobs if I cut the top end off. I'll repeat that I don't want it to have a P-Bass sound, but at the same time it's really got a hell of a lot of tone. I've also never tried flatwounds on my own basses, although I have played them before (mostly on fretless basses) and my fingers seem to prefer it.

As an aside I never do slap/pop. It's not from a lack of trying, and I can do some real basic octave work, but I'm just not wired to appreciate it.

Do Spectors play nice with flats?

Quite...AWESOME! :D Out of 12 Spectors I've owned ALL 12 had flat wounds on them. :bassist: I've tried different brands, D'Adarrios, Ernie Balls, DR but GHS Precision Stainless Steel Flats seem to do the best for me. They're silky smooth and last forever. I put their lights on my Coda 5XL DLX, I really love their flexibility, less tension, big LowEnd, solid mids, not too bright highs, and yet they let that growl come blazing thru. I play rock, CCM rock and slow melodic CCM. And my fingers thank me a lot! :smug:

Have you tried La Bella flats on a Spector? I just put a set on a p bass. Pretty nice.

Yeah, I've used both and currently have (another) B3K. It's one of those things you kinda have to experience first hand. When you've tried as many OD's as I (we) have and then one comes along that punches you in the chest like that it makes the money a lot less of the focus.

I'm still amazed every time I plug in at how the B3K preserves that low end and fundamental in the tone. No other OD has ever done that for me.

But then again, there are plenty of people selling them so I guess they aren't for everyone.

Okay wow weird day. Will soon be getting my preamp f4om icebox to go into my rebop. Then I get the coolest call. When I bought my ns2000 4 it had a twin I coulda bought but i didnt wanna be greedy lol. Now 3 months later walla its back in store and put aside for me and will be joining its brother lol. Since the ns is now my main bass at last until I try out the preamp in the rebop. My own frankenbop lol. I love yhe sound of the ns20004 so kinda excited to see what the BT sounds like in the bop.

I have used one for abiit 6mos now and Lee is right the low end is retained and it sounds great. I'm thinking of moving to the b7k and have even more versatility

I wonder if the people selling them ran into the issue I had when I initially got mine?

I will try not to make this boring so it can make sense. Basically, every OD pedal I tried, including the B3K just sounded like a "wall of fuzz" which was not the sound I was looking for. Think of Neil Young's "hey hey, my my" and you will get the idea.

Everyone was raving about this B3K and I just could not get it to sound good so I knew it had to be something I was doing wrong. Luckily, Lee, Sam, and Omer were able to help me out and now the thing is sounding amazing and I see why everyone loves this pedal.

Basically, I am a bedroom player and only play in my office and never play out since I am not in a band. I have this Hartke LH1000 head which is way too powerful for the setting I am in but I got it for such a good price, I could not pass it up. If I turn the volume on 1, it completely shakes this room so I can't drive my cabinet like it need to be so nothing is being driven correctly.

I bought that Bassbone that Alex Webster has in this video (i got a used one really cheap from GC) and turning the volume down on that pedal allowed me to increase the volume on my head which then drove enough air through the cabinet and boy was the end result amazing. I hope I didn't bore anyone but I want to be able to help anyone that may have seen the same problem I did since that might give them an idea. I should also get a lower powered head just to have so I can use that for home also :)

I will save you some money......seriously.......go straight to a Euro unless you have a spare $2500-2800 to go straight to a USED NS-2. I say this as alot of longer term members will tell you that you can save yourself alot of money and time and go right for the big gun.

I have had Euro models that I put Spector (haz lab contracted, some old school know it as HAZ, but we try to maintain the usa9volt circuit) 9volt pre in a a humbucker model I put the usa 18 volt Spector pre in. That might get you 95% there and save you some money.......however ......purists will tell you to go straight for the NS-2 if you can.

Lee (Husky123), Sam (Limaguy) JPSbassist, Worshiprocker, Jeffplaysbass, Bunkaroo....just to name a few.....many others can help you out. There is a wealth of knowledge within the club..........feel free to ask alot of questions..........there are also multiple websites that will give you descriptions of construction and youtube video's of tone.

There is soooooooooooooooooo much you can learn and find out out the Spector world! Good luck and welcome aboard (potentially)

warning #2.....you actually might prefer the Euro necks(coming from fender profiles), as the US model necks can and are apparently a little chunkier, except for maybe the early Brooklyn and Kramer era years......

Everything that's said here...I came from Fender also...as for comparative necks try the Euro-4 Doug Wimbish for narrow neck or the Euro-4 Ian Hill signature model for thinnest neck. I've owned MIK, Euro and USA models...the Forte 4 necks are thicker but super comfortable, Forte 5 I had (Which is on the classified now for killer price $1650) had a thin neck and my current USA Spector Coda 5XL Deluxe Jazz is killer thin neck awesome tone palette and 10#! The Fortes are esentially the NS-2/5 but without all the eye candy. You can order the Spector 9V circuit in them as well, the circuit that makes the NS-2 the Flagship of Spector tone!
Even the "entry level" basses, Legend Pro Series, are awesome! The necks are similar to fender necks but much more powerful, aggressive, and light. Spector endorsed artist play the Legend World wide.

There's a history site within that'll give you all the info on Spectors of the past.

Ask any question on here and you'll usually get an answer back really quick!
