Not sure if it's cool to talk about the bottom-dwelling Performer series basses here, but...A couple of years ago (IIRC) I bought an Ian Hill signature model from Jaymi with the smadder setup, but just didn't like it that much. The neck was great and the tone was great, but there was just something about it that I didn't like about the curved body and my right hand feel. So I sold it a couple of months ago. I picked up a black 4-string Performer bass last week and like it. It doesn't have the great neck or tone that the Ian Hill did, but so far I like it a lot more. Can't beat it for the price.

All Spectors are welcome! I started out with a Legend 4 and it was a great bass and regret selling it for next to nothing on the local craigslist.
Performers are great basses, there are plently here that play them.
Awesome, love the blank fretboard and the logo at the twelveth.
A good read. I don't get bass player anymore but check the articles online every now and then.

I'm not a big fan of any of those bands, but I bet the bass tone is going to be killer.
I was in a shop the other day and there was an old Queensryche tune playing thru a couple of crappy little speakers designed to sit in the back window of a car, you know the ones, grey plastic case, chrome dust cover, a 5in and a tweeter. Normally you wouldn't be able to hear any bass, but you could hear that Spector growling right thru the mix, even on those cheap speakers.
I know this was covered recently but what are everyone's thoughts on the 9v to 18v mod on the TP? I liked it on the Aggie pre's so I'm guessing it would similarly rule on the tone pump. Discuss.
Just did it to my ReBop. I wish I had taken the advice of others and done it sooner. I love it. There has been some discussion also as to the setting of the trim. I've got mine right around 60%. I always wanted the US 9v after I played one for about an hour. After the 18v upgrade I can say that I think I'm 85-90% there on the sound. That makes future S.A.S. a lot easier on the wallet knowing I can get the tone pump that close.
You better believe he is the man. I've got a little story behind this build that I'll share once I get it in my hands. Unfortunately, it looks like my bass missed the truck today (we were exchanging e-mails w/ Spector until late this afternoon), so I'll have it in hand on Friday, not Thursday.
But regarding Todd & his store - I'd buy another bass from him in a SECOND. Those of you wondering where to get your Spector from - look no further than Guitar House of Tulsa. Great pricing, service second to none, and very friendly to deal with.
Glad I followed Icebox's lead and went to Todd for my first custom build.
One more day and it will all be over, I watched the tracking information when the Ultraviolet was on its way....glad I just pulled the Black Cherry bass from Todd's wall and took it home with me because I don't think I could have lost any sleep wanting it to arrive! lol

I have been floating back and forth for the past few days as to what wood option to go with, and actually sent Todd an email right as I was leaving work letting him know I was probably going to opt for a more financially conservative build, but then I got home and saw yours and now I'm confused again!! LOL!

Well, I was told Stuart said I got the best piece in his current stock
, so make sure you ask to see some samples. More on this later (you can PM me for info). I wanted a (dark) buckeye from the first time I laid eyes on one. It worked out for my build because to get 19mm spacing on a 5er meant I had to go with a bolt-on, so the $800 extra for the top was offset a bit because of that. Also, because the bolt-ons have a solid body profile, if you get lucky with a nice top, it shows even better as an 'uninterrupted' solid piece instead of the wings, IMO. Can't wait to see it in person.
My other weakness in Spector's color palette is blue - peacock, bermuda, coral reef - so I have the feeling there's going to be another build sometime with one of those colors. And then tangerine...and maybe...oh, hell...it never ends!
