Let me tell you guys one more time...I'm not a buckeye type of guy, give me a nice Maple with some color and gloss or even a solid black and I'm happy...but...this bass Reprise has on the way looks sweet and the samples you showed yesterday bclark are amazing, I would pick the owl pattern just because it would be yours but #1 looked great as well....ok, I'll shut up now because I feel I might be adding to the confusion! lol

Found your post with the samples, bclark. :D

Looks like you're going with a similar build - bolt-on with MM pup, which will give you a solid body, and show off a good top to its greatest potential. Plus, with the one pup, toward the bridge... that's *more* surface area for the top to shine through.

If you follow through with the top, I'd go with #2, although as Todd said, you really can't go wrong with either. Give some thought on which way to orient the piece, so you retain as much of the unique figuring as possible after the routing is finished, and also to contrast with the ebony board. I'd set that 'owl' in the tail end, if it'll not be obscured by the pup / bridge, but I have the feeling that it'll work better at the neck end. Plus it will contrast well at that end against the neck.

One thing I noted - the article seems to imply Nick had the NS-5H2 fretless for the recording of the title track. PJ actually delivered that bass to him on the the road. They used a Legend fretless I believe for the record.

I remember when it was brought up that PJ was delivering the bass. Still sounds awesome though.

I always wanted the US 9v after I played one for about an hour. After the 18v upgrade I can say that I think I'm 85-90% there on the sound. That makes future S.A.S. a lot easier on the wallet knowing I can get the tone pump that close.

The neck was great and the tone was great, but there was just something about it that I didn't like about the curved body and my right hand feel. So I sold it a couple of months ago. I picked up a black 4-string Performer bass last week and like it. It doesn't have the great neck or tone that the Ian Hill did, but so far I like it a lot more. Can't beat it for the price.

Congratulations jack! Everyone has "That" one bass that they're looking for...and it doesn't have to be an expensive bass. I've had a performer 4 once and it is a great sounding/playing bass, a lot for the money. I had an Ian Hill also...an amazing bass. Mine was stock with the trim TP. I loved that bass! For me, it was the best playing/sounding Euro 4 that I'd owned. Glad you found your bass jack:):bassist: Shoot a picture on here! Love gloss black!

Well. I received the 35 p yesterday and put it in my 94 last night. It sounds terrific. I like the balance of the pickups' output much more now. The 35 p in the neck isn't overpowering like the 35 dc I had in there was. They're both even in output and I like the tightness of the the 35 p much more. So with that being said, the combo of p/dc is a great p/u combo. Thanks to fat240 and bunk with the persuasion of keeping the one dc in it. Good call guys!!

You better believe he is the man. I've got a little story behind this build that I'll share once I get it in my hands. Unfortunately, it looks like my bass missed the truck today (we were exchanging e-mails w/ Spector until late this afternoon), so I'll have it in hand on Friday, not Thursday.

But regarding Todd & his store - I'd buy another bass from him in a SECOND. Those of you wondering where to get your Spector from - look no further than Guitar House of Tulsa. Great pricing, service second to none, and very friendly to deal with.

Glad I followed Icebox's lead and went to Todd for my first custom build.

Labor day Torn gets to play at a thing called the Covefest, there will be 7 bands playing that day and we will probably develop a set list with all of the Rush, Pink Floyd, Ozzy, Led Zepplin type of tunes...do the rock show thing!
