First and most important.
Remember, all of us here are Buyers and Sellers of Spectors.
As a Buyer you want to get the cheapest price possible
As a Seller you want to get the highest price possible.

IMHO the majority of people here have lost money when it comes to selling Spectors and all used music gear.

Maybe you bought something for $2,500 and sell it 4 months later for $2,300 because you are Gasin’ for something else. And the cycle continues and goes on with just about everyone.

Husky123 has mentioned that he looks at this as renting the bass for a few months.
So in that scenario he rented the bass for $50 a month.

As Fat240 mentioned above "There are some that buy cheap just to flip at a profit. Anyone that has been here a while knows who to deal with and who not to."

Last year there were a few members who were really good and creating lots of “HYPE” over a particular bass and were excellent at knowing exactly who to Gas up and when it was the right time to sell. There was also lots of Trading + Cash deals that went down so it confused the actual values even more.

Not saying this as a negative thing.

Wouldn’t we all like to have the skill and salesmanship and un-attached demeanor to do this. But not everyone is wired that way. Most of us here get emotionally attached to our Spectors and selling them hurt.

I also think that many of the club members who came around during this “HYPE” time are somewhat mystified on the pricing of used Spectors.

Example:
I purchased a NS-2JAR with a great looking figured natural top as a Mint Demo from Basscentral for $1,199
6 months later all I could get for it was $750 shipped. After shipping and paypal fees that’s under $700.

During the "Hype" time there was a used NS-2JAR with scuffs that sold for $1,100 here on Talkbass and I know this bass was originally purchased off ebay for $650.

Just recently, there were 2 NS-2JAR's that sold on ebay.
One sold for $550 +$40 Shipping
another sold for $560 +$29.00 Shipping

I don't need or want to get into any more particulars about the "Hype" period but I think we are all seeing the market change since that is no longer around but some of those “Hyped era” basses are looking to be sold now.

There are different times of the year when things sell high and sell low.
During the Summer months, June through August is the worst time for a seller since most people are spending money on vacations, home renovations and already spent their tax returns.

A few examples of Spectors that sold on ebay recently at crazy low prices.

2013 New Demo Forte 4X Sold for $1,599 Free Shipping

Euro4 White SE (Sting) bass sold for $1,180 +50 Shipping

2010 Spector Coda4 sold for $995 +$85 Shipping

From October to December things seem to pick up a bit since people are maybe getting money saved up again.

After NAMM, from February to April is the best time to sell. Since people are all Gased up from seeing the new Spectors at the NAMM show
and many are "Ready to buy" when their tax returns come.

First visit since Monday, due to business travel. It was cool reading through the entire pricing discussion in one sitting. Some really sensible and explanatory posts were offered up, and it brought some perspective to the issue.
I see that folks are ready to move on, and I'm not one to drag things down, but everyone's Spector story begins with a purchase or trade. That will have a big influence on the ultimate resale price.
I traded in an Aria Pro II for my SSD NS-4CRFM in 1997, and walked out with it for $1200. It is in amazing shape, and if I ever sold it, a sub-$1000 price would seem fair to me, especially if I can help someone into a "Czechtor" that previously saw them as unattainable.
I paid much less than list for my Webster, so if I sold it used for $1600, it wouldn't bother me. If I paid $2800 for it, I would feel much differently.

I think our worst enemy when selling used is impatience to buy the next Spector!

I'll be thinking of you Ice!! And it will be more empathetic, than sympathetic- one slowly aging and deteriorating bass player to another!!
( :hyper: this would be me if you slow it to 1/5th speed, and the arms and legs don't go as high...). :D

In other news, I'm going to the middle of nowhere (well, more like the edge of nowhere as it's right on the coast) for 9-10ish days starting tomorrow night and the practice amp is coming with me.

Oh and of course, the one bass I take HAS to be a Spector so I've chosen the Legend Classic 6. Need to work on the technique and push myself! :bassist:

I expect it will sell, maybe not right away, but the price you have it up for is not unreasonable in the least.

I was checking out the original FS thread and noticed it mentioned the bass was played by a few people at BP Live! in L.A. Any idea who might have layed hands on it? May Alex have been one of those or has Alex ever played this particular bass?

Just curious and it could be a nice selling point to some hardcore fans, of which the mighty Alex Webster has many.

Very true. I sold a Warwick 'vette with a coveted wenge neck to fund the purchase of the Rebop I have now. I sold the 'wick too cheap because I just had to have the Spector right now before someone else swooped it up. I may one day decide to sell both the Rebop and my other bass to fund a nicer Spector and if I can help some poor misguided soul to join our brotherhood by passing on my Rebop for a bit less than I paid, so be it, but you can bet that $$$ is going towards another Spector.
