Well it took me 2 months to sell my Euro 5LX since I wouldn't budge off of my twice lowered price. I think buyers around here expect to get it for "less" than the listed price. I rarely do that for someone not part of this club.

I'm going to be much more bullish on the Webster. At this point I do not expect it to sell. I may even remove the latest price drop and just leave it out there. If someone comes across is, great. Otherwise, happy to keep it.

Here in a few weeks when my NS-5XL comes in I expect I'll put my Euro5LX with the OBP-3 up for sale to help pay for my NS-2 build.

See that's the tricky part. When you want to use the money to get something new, that temptation is there to lower it.

With the Webster, I don't need that cash to pay for my fretless build. I already have the money set aside for that. The Webster can stay as long as it likes. I thought about how selling it I could put in another build order, but then I realized that's frickin' crazy considering how much I've ordered already this year. We'll see how things look around tax time.

My girl and I are talking about doing a big international trip to help celebrate our 40th birthdays (she's this year, I'm next year). So I think I'll be putting some money into that.

I think that's what I'm going to do with my ReBop. Having looked around & asked here, I know my price is reasonable. I'm in no rush to sell, just GASing. I'll sit with it at its current price & see what happens.

I don't have to sell it to pay for the NS-2, and that's a good thing. If I need to I can still pay for it without the sale. I just thought that the NS-5XL will do what the Euro5 does and do it better so I don't need it. I can just wait for a good price. Of course there will be a "club discount".

You know I thought about this discussion more and I think maybe it came across a little harsh.

I mean I don't think someone like you is doing anything bad. I think a big part of it is just the churn of people trying a lot of different stuff. I've done that myself. If you have a bass change hands a few times in a year, and every time the seller is willing to take a small loss to move it, that's how you wind up with dirt cheap basses. That's the only way I can explain my NS-5XL.

Personally, I never want to come across as someone trying to "flip" a bass, so I am careful not to list for more than I paid.

I think you're dead-on with this one. Case in point is that Forte 5 I had for a bit. It changed hands, I think at last count, something like seven times. It's not that there's anything wrong with it. Everyone has his/her reasons for selling. I didn't take to the 35" scale. A Rebop strung BEAD worked better for me since I rarely head up onto the G anyways. Personal preference. The guy I bought it from took a big hit on the price when he offered it up at $1600 because he was trying to fund a new Harley. Personal priorities. That Forte was a hell of a deal but you're right, Andy. Each incremental lowering of the price is through the hands of six different sellers gives you a blingless US-made NS2 Spector at half of what it would cost new, much less a full-on, SPboner-inducing NS2 treatment like we've been seeing here recently.

(Yes, that would be a Spector-facilitated growth in one's pants due to outrageous amounts of tube quilted maple. )

It's a good time to be a Spector buyer, not a good time to be a seller, unfortunately. But that's how markets work. If you can, just sit tight on what you've got. It doesn't help the SAS much, though.

Just out of curiosity what is a good selling price for a Euro5LX. I'm not selling mine. Just curious.

Mine went for $1200 with a case which is too low IMO, but Euros have been low in price for a wile. BTW it took almost 2 months at that price. Had plenty of interested for less, but had to turn them away.

Interesting. I bought mine new from Basscentral. They usually have a "special" price on some. Mine wasn't an NOS or a blemished one but it was on special. I got it with a case for $1699 plus shipping. I think that was a pretty good price. Not that it really matters since I don't see selling this bass. Between the TW pickups and the volume, bass and treble controls, different hand positions and techniques it really has all the tones I need in one bass.

That was a hell of a good price. I paid more than that to Bass Central for my Euro 435LX with a case from them a couple years ago. It wasn't NOS though. I'm not aware of too many new basses going for that price though.

It's always harsher when typed on a computer screen lol. There are some that buy cheap just to flip at a profit. Anyone that has been here a while knows who to deal with and who not to. I usually list a little higher than fair due to getting flooded with low ball offers. I'm not one to buy try basses and as attached as I get to my gear I really never plan to sell, but we all know how that goes I also try not to sell to people that I know will more than likely sell the bass shortly after they get it. My gear is like my kids and I like for it to go to someone I know will appreciate it.

I got mine locally for $1150 with a HSC, and anything lower then that I'd say is a total steal. I really wouldn't let my Euro go unless I was moving to a NT US model but I definitely wouldn't budge too far off of my asking price unless a club member or someone who's helped me out before was looking for a great deal.

As for the for sale threads, you guys should really keep them open if you're on the fence about selling a bass. A quick google search "spector 5 string used for sale" pulls up the TB classifieds and you never know who may or may not see your ad.

I think the problem with the Spectors not selling is that not many places stock them giving people a chance to play them before receiving them after shipping. The only Spector's I've ever seen locally were an over priced Rebop 5DLX (in store) and a handful of Legends (also in store). At this point, if a sweet NS5XL came up for a good price, I know I could jump on it and I'd love the bass considering how much I love my other Spectors. I just think that for the cash that the USA builds go for, people usually just play it safe and get the typical Fender/MM/G&L and call it a day. Man are they missing out!

That doesn't say anything about the -$1000 basses but I can tell you that if you guys were local I'd love to pick up some of these basses at asking price. A $1700 Rebop 5 for $700 shipped? That's a steal! The basses will sell, I'm sure. It'll just take some time!

Also, the Rex 5 got it's first practice last night, and wow, am I ever blown away by this bass so far! My Euro is still in the shop getting worked on and having that OBP-3 installed so I'm really glad the Rex came in. It sounded awesome! Very full, very aggressive, perfect really. I thought I had it dialed in as good, if not better then I do with my Euro, so that just makes me more excited to get that bass back!

I really like the EMG pre in this bass (EMG BT?) and I surprisingly don't think I'll be in as big of a rush to upgrade from the HZ's as I thought I would. I'm thinking eventually throw the EMG 40P/J set in one of my basses and keep the DC's in the other one.

I sold my Euro 5LX Poplar burl for $1200. I'd recently changed the pickup/pre to all Barts with several toggle switches and what not just to experiment, added the original EMG pickups, the original TrimPump, a used Aggie OBP3 AND a Mono M80 single gigbag along with the bass...

looking back I should have kept it because I paid well over $2K for the bass/upgrades etc...and oddly enough I can't remember what was so awesome that I sold a great Euro 5 for...Oh well...you live and you learn.

I plan on keeping my soon to be pair of US BO 5's for life! I know I also want to have a couple nice NS-2's for EADG and ADGC tunings and a couple nice J and P basses for when a gig or studio work calls for that classic look/tone! Once those are in the stable I should be able to cover any situation!

Contacted seller and retracted bid. Dont wanna take guesses on preamp. If it doesnt have hazclone not interested.

Normally i don't like the BT, but the BT and HZs in a rex are magical.....

Hey guys. I've been trolling the classifieds and it seems lately that some of us have been posting on some of the listings bemoaning the price some of the Spectors are going for and generally being negative. I'm not sure if that's a good idea. Makes us look bad I think.

Remember, we're all about tolerance... Except worshiprocker who, etc. etc. etc.

I am aware of the rebops and their problem with this but never figured that a bass of this quality would suffer from this syndrome too. Glad I have the option to return it!

How do you guys deal with this issue? Lead weight implants into the body?

Light weight tuners and proper strap choice.

My 'Bop doesn't neck dive. And it's only 9.5lbs, too.
Wide leather/suede strap & you're set. ^_^
