1. if I'm a founding and/or creative member of group, 99.9% of the time I'm playing what bass I want.
2. if I'm a bassist-for-hire for an artist/group, I playing whatever style bass the person paying me wants me to play! ...same for attire and other requirements!![]()
If you're out to make a living with your instrument, especially in a town full of 'tradition' like Nashville, you need to be flexible to stay financially above water! ...just my 2 cents
I've never really been a hired gun so for better or worse I have not adopted this mentality. I've also been known to not give two ***** about any tradition.
I find projects that align with what I want to do musically and match my philosophy on things. So I fall firmly under your #1.
