Got ya this morning brotherFunny... I go to bump my NS4CR for sale and while I'm there I decide to show some love to all the basses you guys have there. Then I realize I just put all your basses above mine on the first page! I gotta get my act together. LOL
...hang in there. Since I've learned to play 6 string guitar, I can watch the lead guitar to see what notes/cords that he's moving to.I went from 4 to 5 to 4 to... 6string

I didnt really have an issue making the switch.
My situation might be different because my
// 4 strings were tuned A D G C
// 5 string was C F Bb Eb Ab.
so.. my 4 was dropped a whole step from B E A D
and my 5 was dropped two steps from E A D G C
in theory now I have the range I was using before with ONE bass rather than 2.
I never learned scales by "note names" but rather shapes... mainly because for the majority of the time i wasnt in "standard" tuning.
In bands ive been in... we all still call out an open low notes B E A D G C and whatever... but it doesnt mean its actually a B... its just easier to call out stuff.
Cool, thanks! But did you have to learn different fingering positions for compound cords strumming on your guitar? As standard finger patterns wouldn't work for the changed tuning.Well my bass is tuned B-E-A-D-G and my 6 string guitars are tuned like 7 stringed instruments. B-E-A-D-G-B (there's usually an e here, but not on my guitars) so it mimics the bass exactly.
It's usual play and go with chrods, only the top string is different, unlike standard E tuning where strings 1 and 2 are tuned slightly differently

hehe, I'm going to be doing this swap when my bass comes back from the shop. TP to BQC, that is.
The stock non-trim TonePump that would have been in that bass is a 2-band EQ and was VERY harsh, IMO. The newer TPs have a trim pot to control the output gain and they're much better at having an even and less harsh output.
I found that even running it at 18V with active pickups, it was still too much for my amp to handle without the dB drop and a limiter.
I'm hoping the BQC will do what I need it to and make it a better sounding bass with more control.
OK......I got the 94 SSD that Jeff had that was Jaymi's at one point.....

Anyway, truss rod broke.
No biggie right? They pull right out and all is right in the world because a new one slips right in....
Not in my case.
Somewhere down the line prior to ownership on TB by anyone, someone knew the truss rod was busted and did a hackjob repair. Which held up and allowed the truss rod to function for a while, but it was doomed to fail. (why someone didn't spend the $20 for a new one from the onset escapes me.......)
What they did was grind down a hex nut to fit in the channel to put pressure against the rod.
Well, the nut fractured and over time with adjustments being made to it, the pieces embedded themselves into the wood.
Also, because it's a 94, it has the brass capped truss rod (this is where the issue started).
If you look at the attached pic of the truss rod (with the circles).....the blue line is where the brass block split. The part with the yellow circle now lives where the red circle is.
And both are wedged into the channel because of the afore-mentioned "fix" with the ground down hex nut.
I talked to PJ and was going to send it back to Spector, but PJ knew a few guys here in town so I decided to try and get it taken care of locally.
So, as it sits right now....well, looking like the fingerboard may have to be removed to get all that crap out and a new rod put in.
The shop is reluctant to do any further "digging" to try and get anything out at this point.
I need to stress, Jeff had no idea, and I'm pretty Jamyi and Brett didn't even know this was an issue when they had it. Because the truss rod did function for the most part.
I was just the lucky SOB that it finally bought the farm on!! LOL!!!
So, take a look at the pics and I'll post more up if the shop takes any.
