USA Coda 5 DLX (34" scale)

How close is the neck feel wise to a Bongo 5 Sterling 5 Big Al 5? OR is it closer to a Jazz 5. I have a VM Squier Jazz 5 & I feel at home more on those EBMMs.

That Spector looks AMAZING ! I want to try one, any in the Boston area?

I really pushed for the matte black color. In the end, it's honestly all up to PJ. And he wanted to offer a blue black matte finish.

I am a black guy personally. I mean The Blue Dream is amazing and my Water Cured Redwood is amazing. But The Black Pearl is still my favorite.

I notice the switch on these. I need to get a switch for my Euro 435LX that upgraded to an US18v preamp. I have an extra hole and figured a switch would take up less space in the cavity than a pot. Any idea what size fits on the Euro?

Anyone know?

Thanks guys! I'm ready to get out of this musical rut that I've been in for the past few years!

John, do you have the "Teach Me Bass Guitar" series?? If so how do you like it? I've heard really good things about it!

I'm definitely lucky to have a bunch of incredible bassists to take lessons from! I'm going to see how it goes with Roy over the next few months. I have a feeling he can teach me a TON about technique and theory! I've also been talking with Regi Wooten and Adam Nitti, who are local as well, and thought about the occasional Skype lessons with Anthony Wellington...needless to say I'm pretty excited with the possibilities! :bassist:

I like to learn as well, I'm glad I got the fretless so I could explore that but what I found is that I'm learning from the songs we cover in the band using some of my fretted techniques and need to explore different vibrato methods, etc. Found some great players on Facebook and youtube that I'm learning from which is cool....do you have a player that you enjoy learning from using these sites?

I'm also not a pop/slap player (probably because they didn't use it for classic rock), wouldn't mind picking it up but it would just be kind of useless for me I think...I watched a local guy playing a pop/slap technique but he used it on songs that didn't have it on the recording which made them sound different or over did them!!!!

Yes, I do. I bought it over a year ago but just started getting into it recently and really like it. I am really forcing myself to learn each thing and not blow through it like I would normally do and that really has helped me out a great deal.

I am currently on lesson 5 so I have a long ways to go but I am really into it now. This might be a bit tough for someone who is an absolute beginner but for me, it's perfect since I am mainly self taught and any teacher I had over the years never took the time to explain this stuff.

For the uninitiated, is that a book series? DVD series? Online?
I am going to be off work for a month starting in November and have been looking to use it to advance my skills and technique. Sounds like something I need to check out.

I apologize in advance for the lengthy response... :D

I like to work on technique and theory face to face with an individual, so I can ask questions and have it make sense in my own brain! I find that a 'hands on' approach works best for me in those areas...which is the main reason I'm going back into lessons, and one of the reasons I decided to go with Roy.


I tend to use youtube/facebook and other online sites for ideas and concepts of playing. I really like the short clinic vids of Anthony Wellington. He tends to think really outside of the box, yet explains it in such a way that makes you think "huh...that's freakin' easy!" He also owns the bass seat in the Victor Wooten band...so he's pretty alright! :D

I have also found that Invalid Link Removed is a really good place that has a TON of info that one can filter thru...and it's FREE!!! :bassist: He has a very relaxed, easy approach to different aspects of music and bass playing!

...also I just watch performances as often as I can! I love watching Victor, Michael Manring, Anthony Wellington, Flea...etc. I have learned a lot about playing from these guys youtube vids! However, I also feel like it's stunted my musical growth, so to speak, because I just mimic what I see instead of understanding what is actually happening and why. This is the main reason why I'm going back into private lessons.

very cool! I'm glad to hear that you are using it and finding it helpful!

I have the same problem of just tearing thru info, instead of taking the time to really understand what I'm leaning and why it's important! I'm hoping Roy can address this issue for me as I start to get into these lessons!

I too am a self taught guy, having only taken lessons for a short time from a few local players who thought they knew more than they did! :D

Yeah, it is sad to see how many poor teachers there are out there. When I first started playing, all I was taught was how to read tab and then I would bring in a song I liked which we would then try and figure out. This was about 3 different teachers that did that too which really made me hesitant even in this day to try out a new teacher so I bought Roy's DVD's and they are much better.

I have also been using Scott's Bass Lesson's like you mentioned as well since he is great at teaching things in his video's. I donated to his site as well so he sent me a bunch of PDF guides to his lessons which make it a bit easier since you can see what he is playing. Even though I have been playing since I was 13 (I am 43 now,) I have learned so much from resources like these which have made me such a better player. I still think I suck, but at least I do notice that I am improving :)
