Where can I play a Spector around here?! Unless I don't need to, and I'll just fall in love with it when it gets here.
I think you'll love it as soon as you plug it in. I ordered my 1st Spector (a white Euro LX) without ever having played one, and I instantly fell in love with the tone, and it only took a few days after that to get comfortable with the neck & contoured body.
Search your local Craigslist & 2nd hand music stores - you may get luck & find one to audition before you order.
I bought my 1st USA Spector (the red Brooklyn 4)in the fall of 1990.I've had many other basses since,Ken Smith,Marleaux,Sadowsky to name a few.I've found my self back to my first love,Spector.So I took all the things I liked from the other basses I used to play and made IMHO the best basses I could think of!

I apologize in advance for the lengthy response...
I like to work on technique and theory face to face with an individual, so I can ask questions and have it make sense in my own brain! I find that a 'hands on' approach works best for me in those areas...which is the main reason I'm going back into lessons, and one of the reasons I decided to go with Roy.
I tend to use youtube/facebook and other online sites for ideas and concepts of playing. I really like the short clinic vids of Anthony Wellington. He tends to think really outside of the box, yet explains it in such a way that makes you think "huh...that's freakin' easy!" He also owns the bass seat in the Victor Wooten band...so he's pretty alright!
I have also found that Invalid Link Removed is a really good place that has a TON of info that one can filter thru...and it's FREE!!!
...also I just watch performances as often as I can! I love watching Victor, Michael Manring, Anthony Wellington, Flea...etc. I have learned a lot about playing from these guys youtube vids! However, I also feel like it's stunted my musical growth, so to speak, because I just mimic what I see instead of understanding what is actually happening and why. This is the main reason why I'm going back into private lessons.
I hope this helps, and as the day goes on, I'll find some of my favorite vids and PM links to you!

Can you care to say how much of an upcharge it is to have that pickup configuration? Is it only available on the USA basses? If only on the USA I'd have to move my Lakland so I could get it but one reason I like it is bc of the electronics so I'd want to duplicate that.

The name is a little deceiving as it really has P&J pickups under the H housing. We also went for the wide spaced neck (thin profile front to back) as well as a USA 9 volt Spector (HAZ) circuit in it. This bass sounds just as good as it looks.

Great idea on the stealth P/J pickups - would be perfect for someone like me who likes P/J tones but have near-OCD to asymmetry! And that is a stunning quilt!
