SPECTOR® Club - Part 69

+1 The rebop is a fine creation for sure. I may be parting with one soon as I'm finding that I'm more partial to the neck-thru. (Swampy is particular, and the one that I /always/ reach for)

But the rebop is no slacker wither. It's like the swiss army knife of Spectors. Don't like the pre? Swap it out. Don't like frets? Pop on another neck. :bassist:

Actually, if I do decide to let her go, she will include both a fretted and a brand-new (like never even installed) unlined fretless neck with matching black tuners. Swampy's pretty much ruined me of all other comers :hiding:

That is one beautiful rebop

Speaking of next Spector purchases...I'm at a toss-up, right now. I applied a debt consolidation loan, which will also give me about $2000 in extra funds. With that, I'd like to get a new bass. There's a 2011 Fender MIA Dlx Jazz V in my local Long & McQuade that they're asking $1500 used for. I'm sure I could talk the sales clerk (my bass tech) into $1300 cash.

That being said...I'd REALLY like to get another Spector. Maybe a Euro 5, or a used NS-5 (if that's even a possibility).

What can I get for $1-2000 Canadian, after taxes/shipping/duty?

You could easily get a Euro 5 for that much used. The B will demolish Fender's attempt at a 5 string which is pretty piss poor IME.

And actually, if you can find a few hundred more (hypthetically speaking ;)) you could get a new Euro5.

I had a Victor Bailey Sig Jazz V (beautiful bass) and when I bought my Euro5 it blew it away and I never played it again.

Coming to me!!!

I have tested out the Mesa Carbine / DI issue today.

So, master set to zero, DI out over PA:
Pre DI: sound
post DI: no sound :(

And the PA level did change with changing the master.

I've never used a Carbine so I can't say if it's just yours or they're all that way, but they shouldn't be. On no amp I've ever owned with a DI did the master affect the DI output. Bummer.

Hi All!

My first Spector, a Euro 4 from 2003, arrived today, from a Guitar Center in Ohio.

Nice blue burst! The Euro I purchased a couple months back was also a Euro 4 in blue burst from a GC in California. Like the others said, I wouldn't run the Tonepump at 18v. I personallyl found the non trimpot version too hot for my taste so I swapped it out for one with the trimpot. Now the bass sounds awesome and nails all the tones I've ever had in my head.

Yeah, my 'Bop5 is the best B I've played...EVER.
Is there any chance at a USA 5-er in that range?

Nah sorry if you found one that cheap I'd avoid it because it's messed up lol.
You could find a used Euro 5 though and I'm tellin ya probably half of us here couldn't tell the difference of the two in a blind test.
The NS5 is truly a special beast but I was happy with the Euro imports for a good 10 years before I got my first USA Spector.

Exactly!
And I just got done playing my NS5 and Lakky back to back- I had forgotten how much definition is in the B of the Spector compared to the 55-94. The latter is basically just a "thud" instead of true notes.

Anyone going to Bass Player Live?
I am debating, since I can only go on Saturday, not Sunday, and not sure I can stay for the concert Saturday night. But I do understand Spector has a nice presence there and it would be fun to meet some of you in person.

Hmmm...so I should look for a Euro 5LX, instead.
Maybe that matte blue Euro 5LX in the classifieds. ^_^
I wonder what the duty costs would be crossing the border to Canada... :hmm:

Looking at the lineup, I might have to get a two day pass. My lady lives in Los Angeles so chances are I'll already be there anyway.

...it has arrived!

Now I gotta attach the Dunlop strap locks to a strap - my two Euros have Schaller locks.
PJ had them string it with Formula 603 steels; I'll be taking them for a test run later.

HAPPy!!

That is gorgeous! Congrats!!

Why not pick up a set of Schaller strap locks (I prefer them anyway) so you can use one strap for them all or interchange straps as you please?
