OK, I knew that might be asking a lot for someone with a new bass....but....the picture shows that you might be able to slide a ribbon without the use of a power tool! lol

Easily done! Adhere it on the bottom of the cavity closest to the battery clips. Run it under the batteries to the other end of the cavity & up behind the butt of the battery to the opening in the cavity. Problem solved without the use of a Dremel or interfering with the snugness of the batteries.

How do you adhere anything on the bottom without raising the batteries up into the plate? I don't think a thin layer of glue would hold the ribbon.

Since battery swaps are a once a year thing for me I'm not real concerned about all this. At least half my playing is done on the four string so batteries last quite a while. Just remember to pop that plug out a notch before you put it down.

Since I started with Spectors, I've removed all of the effects from my setup. The straight through sound is amazing on its own.

+1! I tried the Sansamp and use a chorus pedal (which is cool to mimic Sting's Synchronicity tour tone) occasionally but keep going back to no effects as well and smiling.

Use a ribbon with absorbing capabilities. Don't use a hot glue, but a super glue. lay down just under 1 square cm of glue & press the ribbon onto it. The ribbon will adhere to the bottom of the cavity and the glue will seep into the ribbon. You're still only left with a very minor lift of less than 1mm (probably .3-.5mm).

I'm diligent with my battery swaps, but I like to be able to swap in a pinch. Say I'm on stage & my battery starts to go, or I think it might be going. I don't have time to run & grab a knife. I do have a phillips close by, though.

OK... I just picked up my NS-5 and removed the battery cover. Slid the little screwdriver behind one of the batteries and easily worked it up and out.

Non-issue.

I guess what I heard was that it was difficult and you had to use a knife to remove the batteries, then I visualized the pull cord which at times is a thin plastic that wouldn't need attached but you would have to leave enough on each side to pull up....but....non issue as Jeff has tested and put this to rest!

I should point out that (as we all know) these are hand made basses and so there will be variances. On my bass this is a non-issue. Apparently Patrick needs to use a knife to remove his batteries. Maybe I was just lucky.

I'm relying on the fact that the Duracells will last longer than me, so I will never need to change them!

Another subject, is there an insult any worst than someone comparing a Spector to a Schecter and then asking if it was an ESP? :scowl:

I've actually owned a couple ESPs, they were excellent bang for the buck basses but they're definitely not Spectors. The Schecter thing, yeah, HUGE difference. My old Korean Rex 4 Pro killed any Schecter I've ever heard. I guess everyone's MMV.

Yes, I played the ESP 404 with the tribal inlays and still have a DK5. Very nice for the money with a preamp upgrade. They tend to have a very harsh top end that I did not care for and was hard to eq out.

so the first lesson with Roy went great last night! He is without a doubt a tremendous source of knowledge for technique, theory and application across multiple genres!!! I think he really dug the look and sound of ol' Spalty as well!

My plan is to record a few tunes now...and then re-record them in a few months to track the progress!

I'm an engineer, at heart. I see a flaw, I want it fixed. ^_^ Even if it is remedied by a screwdriver or knife, I want something simpler & less invasive.

Personally, I'm surprised that Spector doesn't use the quick remove housings. Hell, my $250 Squier VM Jag V has one. lol

I have to admit that I had them confused for the first few years. I was always surprised when I couldn't find the Spector NS on the Schecter website.
That being said, there are a few Schecters I quite like. The Diamond P being one of them! It's like a Fender Deluxe P on steroids, for around $600! And it comes in a 35" 5-er!!
I have yet to meet an ESP bass that I've liked, though. Every one has felt cheap and has been tonally bland.
