Maybe there's something here I don't know, but I'm looking at your pics and it sure looks like you have the US 18v pre judging by the knob configuration. Am I wrong?

You are correct - it IS the 18v. I didn't realize they can cram two 9v batteries into that compartment!

It's called Spector shock, once you explore and realize what you have then it will be like driving with cruise control...people would ask me questions that I knew but I had to explore as well! lol

The 18v still has "The Sound", but there are subtle differences.

IMHO, the 9v offers a touch more grit when pushed to 100% on the volume knob, has slightly higher output volume, and has a bit more punch in the mids.

The 18v has beefier lows (see my sig. ) & a more crystaline highs, and stays cleaner at 100% volume.

The pickups in the NS-2 vs. the NS-4 could have a bit to do with this as well.
I alternate each week between my NS-2 & my NS-4, and love them both equally. I played my NS-4 last night at rehearsal, and it was absolutely killing it.....

Saw Between the Buried and Me today again for the second time, and Dan Briggs killed it as always. I always thought he was playing a US NS5XL but he played his NS2005 and it sounded great all night. Anybody know where I could find a nice deal on one?

Contact Donny...he's thinking about selling his Black NS-2000/5 that I traded him. It's an awesome playa! The string action is low and plays like butter. I installed a Korean 9V Haz copy pre that adds that cool Spector growl. One thing Id recommend is to install either some EMG 40P/J or 40DC pickups. That'd be one mean BEASTIE!

For me personally, basses that do to get played are the ones that get sold or traded for the next thing. I try not to get too sentimental with anything except maybe a custom build to my exact specs...and even those can be expendable if they are not what I am looking for at the time. But I'm an addict...

+1 brother! I would've kept that NS-2000/5 that is in Donny's hands, man, one beautiful black bass, but with my Coda 5XL, it wasn't getting out of the case anymore.

From what I've read Dan only records with his USA models so it doesn't get stolen or messed up, etc..
Also his main bass is the Q5 which is the bolt on version of those old NS imports. I have old Bass Player mags where the ads had those things selling for like $550 new lol.

Nice! I was almost certain I saw him playing an NS2005 because it has the gloss finished neck, but I wasn't up against the stage so I could be mistaken.

Thanks for the help pointing me in Donny's direction, guys. I have a 4 string I'm trying to get rid of locally so it'll make sense to pick up another bass. I was most likely thinking of throwing 40P/J's or DC's in the Rex and the 2005 (if I pick one up) so I guess I'm right on track there!

Ah...so THAT'S who does the LEDs in the UK. I have a buddy in NC that's a big JayDee freak. He sent a couple of necks to the UK to have LEDs put in.

Yep...that's an NS-2000-5. You can tell by where the neck curves into the body. Definitely not a Q-5 Pro. GORGEOUS top on it, though!

However in that video, he calls it an "American made Spector", so maybe I shouldn't take his word for it lol.

Although looking at this pic, it definitely is an NS-2000/5.

HA! Yeah... crammed is a good way of putting it.

I've only had to replace the batteries in my NS-4 twice. But each time I had to get a very flat knife to gently pry the batteries out a little at a time.

You can't be in a hurry when you do a battery replacement on an NS-4.

It is a Korean NS-2A™ circuit, a copy of the famous SPECTOR® USA NS-2™ 9v circuit.

HA! Yeah... crammed is a good way of putting it.

I've only had to replace the batteries in my NS-4 twice. But each time I had to get a very flat knife to gently pry the batteries out a little at a time.

You can't be in a hurry when you do a battery replacement on an NS-4.

Why not just glue 2 pieces of ribbon to the bottom of the compartment that can be tugged on to lift the batteries?

That's definitely the bass he was jamming last night guys, and I can tell you it sounded WICKED!

I want one so badly now. I really like the feel of my Rex compared to my Euro and think I'd really love one of these basses.

On a slightly off topic note, seeing Scale the Summit on Monday here in Winnipeg with TesseracT and I'm really stoked about this show. Mark Mitchell's a crazy bass player and I've been listening to the album tons still since it came out. Just wish he was playing his Legend 6 live, but his new Wick really sounds awesome too.

Yeah. This was a point of controversy years ago when he gave that interview.

It is indeed a Korean-Made NS-2000/5 neck-thru and not a Q5. And it's not a USA. Of course giving Dan the benefit of the doubt, catching him in an interview during a show... he very well could have been saying that Spector is a USA company and it just came out wrong.

He's got several great Spectors and Dan is seriously a sick/talented bassist and a long-time loyal Spector Artist.

Just practicing some songs for worship on Sunday. Playing my NS2A straight into a Carvin 12" powered monitor at home. It's amazing how good Spectors sound straight to the board so to speak. One of the songs is in D so I was playing in drop D and grabbed a pick just messing around. The tone is unmistakable......Spector FTW
For some reason playing your Spector with a pick just goes up to another tone level.......

I can't wait until my SVP-Pro get back from the tech.......
