Look for anything labeled Spector and reasonably in your price range, compare them to the models listed with tons of info here: http://www.spectorbass.com/ and check "discontinued models" for most of the older ones, OR run it by us in the thread we've got lots of experts to tell you exactly what you're looking at, and give you an idea of how good or bad the pricing is.

Most GC's will let you return it after 30 days if you aren't satisfied too (I say most because I'm not 100% sure)

Now I gotta attach the Dunlop strap locks to a strap - my two Euros have Schaller locks.
PJ had them string it with Formula 603 steels; I'll be taking them for a test run later.

What Basstovsky said! Look for something in your range or a little above it and then just see what model it is. We're here to help! And you can always offer the individual store something a little less too if they may take it.

Nice blue burst! The Euro I purchased a couple months back was also a Euro 4 in blue burst from a GC in California. Like the others said, I wouldn't run the Tonepump at 18v. I personallyl found the non trimpot version too hot for my taste so I swapped it out for one with the trimpot. Now the bass sounds awesome and nails all the tones I've ever had in my head.

If I were to replace this TonePump, would a trim pot TonePump or a USA 18v circuit make more sense?

Saw Between the Buried and Me today again for the second time, and Dan Briggs killed it as always. I always thought he was playing a US NS5XL but he played his NS2005 and it sounded great all night. Anybody know where I could find a nice deal on one?

Hi guys! This club moves so damn fast, hard to keep up! So last night I was at practice and I decided to take my Warwick Corvette, I hadn't played it in a long time and it's a lighter bass to haul around all day. Anyway, when I got into the practice room and plugged it in, I was trying to dial in a nice bluesey/country-ish tone to compliment the style of the band I'm playing with at the moment, but I just couldn't get it in there at all. I kept going back to a brighter metal type of tone (incedentally, amazing tone for slapping.) I used to love this bass sooo much before I discovered Spector and I feel a bit sad. I'm probably never going to play it again, should I sell it? It has a bit of sentimental value as it was my first 5 string but.. I dunno. My Euro outshines it in a million different ways.. Heh.

Trimpot Tonepump if you want a gritty tone, 18v US if you want clean headroom.


I am going to order my second Spector today, a Rebop 4 DLX in black stain matte. Excited!

I'm *thinking* about selling my black NS 2000/5 equipped with korean haz copy preamp. I only have a gig bag for it, but if someone on the east coast is interested I can pick up a cheap case on CL... The only reason I'm thinking about this is that this bass doesn't have the same output as all my others.. but it sure plays like a dream. If someone is interested let me know in a PM. Thanks guys.

I am SO happy with my decision!
Now I understand the power and mystique of the US 9V (HAZ) pre. Every note just POPS with power! Plus, I can dial in a distinct P-bass sound - a mid-range thump that comes through the growl. You can do SO much with the sound, just with the OBP!!!
I just started playing with a cover band three weeks ago. They had been gigging regularly, but the first show with me on bass is 11/23. My new NS-4 will be making its first public appearance there!

Maybe there's something here I don't know, but I'm looking at your pics and it sure looks like you have the US 18v pre judging by the knob configuration. Am I wrong?

For me personally, basses that do to get played are the ones that get sold or traded for the next thing. I try not to get too sentimental with anything except maybe a custom build to my exact specs...and even those can be expendable if they are not what I am looking for at the time. But I'm an addict...

Running a TP at 18V is great, IF your pickups are active. If you're running them through passive pickups, don't bother. I found that switching to 18V with my 40J's really smoothed out the controls and made it easier to dial in.

That being said, I'm switching out to a BQC as soon as I get my truss rod fixed (I'm STILL waiting on the shop -_-)

From what I've read Dan only records with his USA models so it doesn't get stolen or messed up, etc..
Also his main bass is the Q5 which is the bolt on version of those old NS imports. I have old Bass Player mags where the ads had those things selling for like $550 new lol.

I had a Wick Vette 5 once too and it was a decent bass but I sold it and got my first Czech 5 with it after for sure. Wasn't even a close comparison.
