Yep. For me it's either black or chrome. Something about gold that just doesn't do it for me.
+1. If I had my way it'd be black hardware on everything. Just a personal taste thing.

Are they still dark sounding (as compared to DC's) in dual mode like the original TW's that were supposed to be the same as the CS's in that mode?

The X series covers all of the standard designs (DC, CS, P, J, TW, etc.) and uses the same bar magnet designs as the original recipe EMG's; the only difference is a new preamp with improved headroom and what they refer to as a 'more open, organic voicing'.
The X series also apparently solved the volume drop issue that still plagues the standard TW's, though I've never played the TW-X's myself...I don't know why they haven't just addressed that design flaw in the originals

Personally? If you can swing a Rebop or EuroLX do that. Though a lot of the guys here like the NS2a. That's just me.
Buy this one. If you get it for a last minute bid of $825, you won't be sorry.

I sold my NS2a immediately after I purchased a Euro 4LX. It is by far, the best bass I have ever owned.

I also believe the Euro is the best Spector for the money, hands down.
Yeah, I went from zero to four Euros in the last month or so. Maybe if I sell all 4 of them, I can get a US NS. maybe, but I prefer having 4 distinct "voices" to play around with.
Thats how I helped fund my US NS-2 & NS-4 basses.
I still can't bring myself to sell my original white Euro - it has too much sentimental value, and sound-wise, it holds its own against the US basses.
