This +100...the $2500 Martin acoustic bass I have plays like a boat oar compared to my Spector's and projects like crap, you always need to plug it into an amp or the PA anyway :spit:

This is why every now and then I bust out the Jackson KBX. It's just so 80s thrash. I love it.

I'll second that! I did the same back earlier this year, researching for an acoustic bass, but after reading and posting on a TB acoustic bass thread, I decided there really isn't a great sound AE bass that sounds great unplugged. A couple years ago I bought a Dean 5 string AE...ended up selling it shortly after. Good luck on your quest!

The fact that ABGs don't project as well as acoustic guitars is common knowledge on TB. I purchased a Phil Jones Bass Cub for this express purpose.
I played my NS-4 at our first two acoustic gigs; I'll continue to play it until my WABG shows up.
I have no problem plugging mine in. Amazingly, that 100W amp with 2 x 5" speakers will fill a bar with sound; I don't even hafta go thru the PA.
There are certain songs where the ABG sound will fit well. I always liked that sound on the Violent Femmes albums.

There are certain situations (my bluegrass project & church choir, for example) where an ABG is more suited to the vibe of the gig than an electric or upright would be. My ABG is a Fender Kingman, and I run it through my Phil Jones rig when playing with my metal band, and through a SWR Baby Blue II with my other projects.
An ABG can be a lot of fun, and they make great camping companions too. :bassist:

I have gained an interest in the NS Design CRT double bass. It has been a long time but I did like messing around with the acoustic double bass plus it will be fun trying to master the fretless sound on one of these!
