This one is coolest finish I've seen and it's my favourite color scheme. Very cool. Bob, is it Woodstock NS-2 BTW? I wish I could see a front of it...

He said Schaller never made them that way. So in short, Schaller, according to the President, does not make them 90 degrees to the machine head.

Well, not everyone's perfect. PJ told me about 3-4 times that a Spector Rebop 5DLX (circa 2006) has a removable truss rod. Mine, does not. Despite the glue that had leaked into the channel & fused the rod, the channel itself doesn't allow for the rod to come out.
I get the bass back in a couple days, so I'll take some good pics of what it looks like inside.

I have a feeling that you will have a difficult time finding the 90 degree variant Schallers. You see them on eBay once and a while. I sorta lucked out. The 1965 4001 I purchased had them installed, I I got an extra set jut in case!!

That's not surprising. Schaller used to be the top dog in tuners, their quality has gone down hill since about then. They changed something with the gearing and their not the same. The ones on my ns2a and an old set I have are still tight as new. You can feel the difference in the new ones. I'm pretty sure that's why they went to gotoh. Those used to be the std tuner on most basses and schaller was the upgrade. Still like their strap locks though.

So, question - and I'm probably going to get shamed for bringing this band up. I remember back in the day Kip Winger used to have a Spector (assuming it was an NS-2 or NS-2A) painted up like the cover of their first album. Google images search did not bear fruit for me. Anyone out there know if a picture of that bass might be floating around? Does my memory serve me correctly on this?

That's kind of why I moved to the gb7s. If they are good enough for a Forte, they're good enough more my euro. And they're a hell of a lot easier to source.

Someone needs to inform PJ that the M4 2000's have been impossible to find for a couple of years. This has been causing problems for our euro brothers/sisters. they should switch to regular M4s or Gotohs. Gotohs would be logical since the USA shop uses them. (and they're cheeper)

Thats scary stuff man, hope you get it back without it costing you too much! My truss rod rattle reared its ugly head again a couple of weeks ago, so I emailed spector to see about getting it fixed, they apparently no longer do non warranty repairs, but referred me to philtone guitars. I shipped it and it arrived there last tuesday, but I have not heard anything since it arrived. The day I shipped it off, I had called and one of the guys there told me it might be around Jan 10th before Phil gets to look at it, so the next couple of weeks is going to be torture!

Same here, I prefer their straplocks over Dunlop. Not to keep bringing up RIC but they used Kluson, Grover, and Schaller but went to Gotoh for their reissue c64/v63 re-issue tuners instead of Schaller. The old Schaller m4's were made well and stood up quite well. I think most of the major brands used them. Now, not so much. Gotoh seems to be the top key wind company. I am liking the GB7's on the USA NS2!

This is exactly why i switched to the gotoh's also.Reaming the holes out is a piece of cake and there is a lot less stress in finding them.And it isn't only the little guys having trouble trying to find them.I was interested in a bass from bass central,and asked if they could swap the hardware before i bought it.They basically told me there was no way they were going through the hassle of trying to get the black schaller keys.
